Beschreibung

Like many young Americans, Jonathan Safran Foer spent much of his teenage and college years oscillating between enthusiastic carnivore and occasional vegetarian. As he became a husband, and then a father, the moral dimensions of eating became increasingly important to him. Faced with the prospect of being unable to explain why we eat some animals and not others, Foer set out to explore the origins of many eating traditions and the fictions involved with creating them. Traveling to the darkest corners of our dining habits, Foer raises the unspoken question behind every fish we eat, every chicken we fry, and every burger we grill. Part memoir and part investigative report, "Eating Animals" is a book that, in the words of the "Los Angeles Times," places Jonathan Safran Foer "at the table with our greatest philosophers."

I don’t rate non-fiction but it was amazing

This book left me feeling like Bluebeards wife: She then took the little key, and opened the door, trembling. At first she could not see anything plainly, because the windows were shut. After some moments she began to perceive that the floor was all covered over with clotted blood...[...] The world can welcome another vegetarian in the club. Tremendous research went into these 341 pages. It was worth every minute. Everyone should read this. At least everyone in the west. This is no attempt to preach or convert. I don't give a dime about anybodys health but mine but education and knowledge is power. What consequences people may draw from it is their choice. This book is informative and actually discusses the problem, shows alternatives and gives a push to re-think some behavioral patterns most of us aren't aware of (anymore). It's not for feeble minds, inculding me. It left me hurting and crying my eyes out because I cannot comprehend such sadistic cruelty. I'm born in a corner of the world where your farm animals are more important than you, because your life depends on them. They are treated accordingly. Without exception. I knew how mass production works but not to the full extent. Definetelly eye-opening.

The hard, cruel truth about meat production and animal products. Whoever is still able to eat meat, chickens or fish after reading this book simply doesn't have a soul.

What happens to the animals that we eat is something that is probably at the back of all our minds but a lot of us choose not to think about it too hard. Jonathan Safran Foer did a three years research on the subject. It's not a book that you enjoy, it's horrible and nearly made me cry a lot of times, but it's something everyone should be aware of i think.

I think this is a good book to start if you both want to practice mindful eating and get a glimpse of horrible treatments that animals face every second of their lives. Every page leaks blood, blood everywhere. There are many reasons that make me appreciate this book so much. Facts are simply put in. They are increadibly hard to read but it is more important that they are written as raw as it can be. Everything. Is. Always. About. Money. This book is an important, life-changing conversation starter and I want everybody to read this. Even though outcomes may still vary from people to people, everybody should be aware of the horror that we put animals in. It is simultaneously ironic since we are our own most fucked up enemies. We cause so much suffering to everything. I also liked that this isn’t preachy despite of having the best reasons to be. It includes different perspectives on welfare of animals vs animals rights and lets the reader decide which side to root for and implement the results into their lives. Anyways, I have finally gathered the courage and read this book. I wish I had read it long time ago. But I was scared. Sometimes it leaves you shaking, unable to turn the pages let alone touch them, you hold your breath and tears bu it is so important to keep reading. Maybe it's not the most updated piece of information but a damn good one that can direct -much needed- attention to this massacre.
