Great Expectations

„Große Erwartungen“ ist ein Roman, dem man sofort anmerkt, warum er als Klassiker gilt. Die Sprache ist wunderschön, fast schon poetisch, und es gibt so einige Zitate, die im Kopf bleiben. Auch die Message – dass es im Leben auf mehr ankommt, als auf Geld oder gesellschaftlichen Status – ist zeitlos und wichtig. Trotzdem hat mich das Buch nicht wirklich gepackt. Die Geschichte zieht sich an vielen Stellen ziemlich und echte Spannung kam bei mir kaum auf. Manche Figuren sind interessant, zum Beispiel Miss Havisham mit ihrem sehr seltsamen Auftreten, aber mit den meisten konnte ich nicht so richtig mitfühlen. Auch Pip, der Hauptcharakter, bleibt irgendwie distanziert und hat mich emotional nicht erreicht.

I rarely have struggled with a book as much as with this one. And it's to my assumption purely due to its writing style. Atleast the dialogues are very much easy to follow and enjoyable at that. But that's about it.

I only read Volume 1 for College, maybe I will read the rest someday!

this was very heart to get into and I was frustrated a lot of times. this may be because of the old language or the fact that I am not a native english speaker. however I kept going and was well rewarded.
