Ich kann schon sagen, dass eine gewisse Spannung da und die Thematik an sich interessant war. Dennoch hat mich das Ausmaß an realitätsferne und nicht nachvollziehbaren Entscheidungen durchgängig genervt. Die Charaktere sind Stereotype ohne Tiefgang. Spannender Bösewicht, der zig Fähigkeiten bis zur Perfektion besitzt und diese dann so nutzt.
DAS OPFER von John Katzenbach Worum geht´s? Stell Dir vor, Du hast zu viel getrunken und nimmst einen Typen mit heim, den du nicht kennst und mit dem Du eine Nacht verbringst. Und stell Dir dann mal vor, dieser Typ entwickelt eine Obsession zu Dir und fängt an Dir nachzustellen. Alles Nein-Sagen hilft nicht, er begreift nicht, dass Du seine Liebe nicht erwiderst. Stattdessen greift er in Dein Leben ein, bringt Deine Familie in Verruf und stellt alles auf den Kopf. Stell es Dir einfach mal vor… Wie weit würdest Du gehen, um diesen Typen loszuwerden? Meine Meinung: Michael O´Connell ist eben dieser Typ, der Ashleys Leben aus der Bahn wirft und ihr exzessiv nachstellt. Ashley ist hin-und hergerissen zwischen Wut und Angst und bittet ihre Familie um Hilfe… Auf dieses Buch muss man sich vollends einlassen, sonst kann es langweilig wirken. Katzenbach baut das Szenario langsam auf, nimmt sich viel Zeit für die Darstellung der Charaktere und lässt die Situation langsam eskalieren. Anfangs empfand ich das Buch als etwas lahm, aber dann nahm es mich gefangen und rückblickend musste ich feststellen, dass es keineswegs langatmig war. Die Handlung musste genauso aufgebaut werden, Häppchen für Häppchen musste Ashleys Leben durcheinander gebracht werden. Dieses Buch ist so authentisch und lebt durch diesen unterschwelligen Psychothrill - Stell es Dir einfach mal vor!! Ashleys Familie versucht alles, um sie zu schützen und der Plan ist grandios. Der Autor hat sich hier etwas wirklich Realistisches und Dramatisches einfallen lassen. Durch viele Perspektivwechsel und einen unabhängigen Buchautor, der das Szenario im Nachhinein betrachtet, ist dieses Buch sehr spannend und abwechslungsreich. Fazit: Psychothrill der unter die Haut geht, weil es einfach Jeden treffen könnte. Von mir gibt’s eine uneingeschränkte Leseempfehlung!
Psychothriller mit fehlender Spannung.
Die Studentin Ashley Freeman hatte einen One-Night-Stand mit einem Computerfreak und Hacker. Dieser Mann entwickelt eine krankhafte Obsession Ashley gegenüber und zerstört Stück für Stück ihr Leben. Viele Stellen im Buch empfand ich vermehrt ziemlich zäh. Als ich bemerkte dass für mich bis zur Mitte immer noch keine Spannung aufkam, fühlte ich mich frustriert. Es viel mir schwer den Psychothriller zuende zu lesen.
17% into this book: * At the end of each chapter is a perspective change to an investigating author researching the case. Right now I can't see the value add to the story. * The victim acts like the actors in that insurance commercial "let's hide behind the wall of chain saws"... it's very irritating. 35% into the book: * it's frustrating that the main characters don't communicate * thinking about giving up on this book 66% into the book * I no longer think about giving up, but still not excited * for me the characters act completely illogical and a lot of the twists and turns feel artificial So, I finished, but I skipped overvmost of the last 150 pages.... There are definitely some editing issues, along with everything mentioned above.

Dieses Buch zeigt, dass unsere Kindheit uns prägt (was nichts Neues ist). Dieses Buch zeigt, was Obsession sein kann.
