This felt a little like The Folk of the Air, but sapphic? Which means it was really good. All those intrigues, this world full of ice and equally cold people as well as the realistic characters made me enjoy this book immensely. And by realistic I’m especially looking at the protagonist, Ekatarina, who is a 16-year-old girl with no clue about politics and actually behaves like a 16-year-old that has to struggle with her new position as grand duke. And, well, with falling in love. Ekata was so friggin cute and the romance was *chef’s kiss*. It wasn’t over the top, it wasn’t cheesy, it was simply well done. A big plus for the diversity as well. The only thing that bothered me was the pacing. Sometimes the plot felt slow, but then again, the events happen within a few days, but it didn’t feel like such a short time. I know, this sounds weird, but I guess this mirrors the confusion I felt at times.
