Amazing debut novel by Miles Cameron. I absolutely loved the world building, it reminded me a lot of Guy Gavriel Kay. It's modeled very close to 12/13th century England, you could call it alternative history if you like. With lots of medieval sword fighting and magic battles in the epic struggle between men and the wild. The magic system is very interesting and well implemented, but seemed to me at parts unbalanced. The major negative point of this book are the many POVs. This stands out in nearly every review I read. There are just too many,it get's confusing very fast and you need a lot of concentration to follow all the plot lines. Certainly not a book I would recommend to fantasy novices. I would suggest reading this novel in big chunks to get a better understanding. Once you oriented yourself though, you get rewarded with a truly fantastic story, great characters and an amazing world. The ending is well done and does a great setup for the second book The Fell Sword.
