Die Lektüre von "The Rape of Nanking" von Iris Chang hat meinen Blick auf den Zweiten Weltkrieg erweitert, da sie einen detaillierten Einblick in die oft übersehenen Ereignisse in Asien bietet. Besonders schockierend waren die grausamen Taten der japanischen Besatzung in China, insbesondere in Nanking, die Chang eindringlich beschreibt. Als Deutscher finde ich es beunruhigend, dass es bisher keine umfassende Auseinandersetzung der Japaner mit diesen Verbrechen gab. Vergleichbar damit, als würde Deutschland den Holocaust als erfundene Geschichte abtun. Changs Buch ist ein wichtiger Beitrag zur Aufklärung über diese schmerzhaften Kapitel der Geschichte.
Der vergessene Holocaust
Ich wusste lange Zeit selbst nicht dass es einen zweiten Sino-Japanese War gegeben hat und erst recht nicht habe ich jemals von der grausamen Geschichte Nankings gehört. Das Buch ist definitiv nichts für Schwache Nerven. Während man von den Handlungen der Japaner in Nanking liest ist man zutiefst schockiert zu welchen tief grausamen Handlungen Menschen fähig sein können und erschrocken darüber wie Japan nach Nanking mit den Geschehnissen dort umgegangen ist.
