Die ersten beiden Bände der Kuba-Reihe von Chanel Cleeton habe ich geliebt und regelrecht verschlungen. Hier, beim dritten Band, war das leider nicht der Fall. Zum einen hatte ich Probleme dabei, überhaupt in die Geschichte hineinzukommen und ich habe mich gefragt, wie das alles zusammenpasst. Dann entwickelte sich die Geschichte zwar, aber dennoch kam ich nicht rein in die Story. Der geschichtliche Hintergrund ist zwar sehr interessant und stimmig erzählt. Die damaligen Lebensumstände und besonders die Rolle der Frau war sehr gut beschrieben. Ich hatte auch ein bisschen gehofft, das die Geschichte aus den ersten beiden Bänden aufgegriffen, aber es ist ja eine ganz andere Zeit. Wahrscheinlich hat die Bezeichnung als 3. Teil der Kuba-Reihe falsche Erwartungen in der Hinsicht geweckt. Daher fehlte mir etwas, was für mich gerade nicht greifbar ist. Von mir gibt es für diese Geschichte nur 2 ½ von 5 Sternen, aufgerundet auf 3.
