1950. To escape the city, Thibaut must join forces with Sam, an American photographer intent on recording the ruins, and make common cause with a powerful, enigmatic figure of chance and rebellion: the exquisite corpse.
But Sam is being hunted. And new secrets will emerge that will test all their loyalties - to each other, to Paris old and new, and to reality itself.

Wie schafft Mieville das bloss? Jedes Buch von ihm ist anders, neu, unverbraucht. Und vor allem ungewohnt. Man muss sich jedes Mal in einer neuen Welt zurechtfinden. Und Mievilles Universen funktionieren alle nach ihren ganz eigenen Regeln. Somit ist jedes neue Buch von ihm wieder eine ganz neue Erfahrung. Mieville wird dem Genre der Weird Fiction zugeordnet und das sollte man sich merken. Seine Titel sind definitiv nicht nach jedem Geschmack. Wer es abgedreht, seltsam, ungewöhnlich mag - versucht ihn mal. Für mich ist dieser Autor ein absolutes Highlight, genauso wie dieses Buch. Wie bisher jedes Buch, das ich von ihm gelesen habe. Immer wieder frage ich mich, wie er auf diese Ideen kommt. Natürlich hat auch er seine Leitmotive, aber diese verarbeitet er stets auf andere Art und Weise, sodass sie kaum auffallen mögen. Wer sie aber bemerkt, dem geben sie ein Gefühl der Vertrautheit in diesen unendlichen Weiten der abgedroschenen Fantasie. Ich brauche definitiv noch mehr von Mieville. Er hat mich absolt süchtig nach seinen Werken gemacht. Mehr, ich brauche mehr davon!
