Der Zirkus fasziniert. Es ist eine Welt, in der Magie noch möglich scheint. Dies scheint auch Autoren zu inspirieren und vor allem "Der Mitternachtszirkus" von Erin Morgenstern hat es auch mir angetan. Vielleicht hatte ich zu sehr dieses Werk im Hinterkopf, als ich mit diesem Buch hier begann. Denn leider konnte mich Sayers mit ihrem Werk nicht vollends überzeugen. Die Stimmung fehlt, das ist schon einmal sehr schade. Erst zum Schluss scheint die Autorin ihren Stil gefunden zu haben, und langsam etwas Atmosphäre schaffen zu können. Aber bis dahin ist es ein langer Weg, gepflastert mit zu vielen Stellen, die sich ziehen. Dazwischen gab es wieder einige gute Szenen und auch ein paar gelungene und originelle Einfälle. Zum Schluss hin nimmt die Handlung dann endlich an Fahrt auf, und deswegen hat das Buch von mir auch die drei Sterne erhalten. Dennoch werde ich die Geschichte wohl allzu bald vergessen haben und auch auf die weiteren Bücher der Autorin bin ich nicht sonderlich neugierig. Aber alles in allem ein Buch, das man lesen kann.
