Description

A memoir from singer-songwriter Madison Beer, chronicling the past decade of her life spent in the spotlight—the ups, the downs, and the in-betweens that you won’t see on social media.Discovered at twelve years old, Madison Beer was one of the first artists to have her entire life documented online. Over the past decade, she has navigated the spotlight as a child, through her teenage years, and now as a young woman in her twenties. In The Half of It, Madison pulls back the curtain to show the behind-the-scenes of her journey, from reckoning with mass hate online and cyberbullying to the time her private pictures were leaked, to battling suicidal thoughts while making her highly acclaimed debut album, Life Support, and her recovery since then. This mental health memoir is an honest and unflinching account of self-love, mental health, and advocacy from one of the fastest-rising musical voices of her generation. It hammers home the point, more striking and urgent than ever, that no matter how close the internet may make us feel to people, we truly don’t know the half of it.- A Raw Mental Health Journey: Go beyond the headlines to Madison’s private battles with suicidal thoughts, self-harm, and learning to navigate her BPD diagnosis.- The Dark Side of Fame: Discovered at twelve, Madison reveals the truth about growing up online, where every mistake is magnified and your entire life becomes public consumption.- On Cyberbullying and Misogyny: An unflinching look at the trauma of having her private photos leaked at fifteen and facing a global wave of shame with no support.- Finding Her Voice: Follow her path from a manufactured pop image to a powerful independent artist, fighting for the creative control to write and produce her own story through music.

»Being loved by thousands didn’t mean I loved myself.

Incredibly touching, vulnerable, full of heart and empathy. I went into this story knowing a little bit I'd say about Madison, and admiring her already for touching on so many so called touchy subjects haha but after reading this memoir, I look up to her even more! Reading how she tells her story and opens up about so many deep and personal things is truly mind boggling, gut wrenching and heart warming. Plus the journal prompts to fill in yourself are such a sweet aspect that I'm so looking forward to! As a reader and fan of hers you truly feel connected with her ❤️

Ganz gut

Madison is a young woman who has been through hell in back in her personal as well as professional life. I have always loved and related to her as a person and her music so much. This book means a lot to me, I’m proud of her for speaking up and sharing her story so she’s finally more to people than a beautiful face. I just hate that people still don’t even know she makes music when I bring her up. She’s an artist through and through. Loved getting to know her more in this and I loved the personal approach. Didn’t love the way chapters were set up but other than that, would recommend for anyone interested in artists behind the scenes or mental health.

A very good book in which Madison Beer talks honestly about self harm/panic attacks etc. I can relate to this topic in some ways so this was kind of refreshing to read/listen to because it still seems to be kind of taboo-ish nowadays. Its a book I didn’t now I needed until now. Some passages were a little bit triggering for me, but that’s what I have to do in therapy too, face the issues.. Am I saying that this was like a therapy session? Idk lol Plus I did never really care about her career and only listened to some songs (I love her newest album) so this was interesting in biographical ways too! I feel so sorry for her about those cyber bullying stories and cannot imagine the amount of pain this must be for a teenager/young adult! I’m glad that I now know her kind of better, even though this is a short book about a yet short life it was very interesting. I hope she will keep us updated with other books of her life in the future. :) It could’ve been a bit more longer and deeper in my opinion, I’d give it a 3 1/2 stars.
