Wie schreibt man über einen dritten Teil einer Serie, ohne gleich einen großen Spoiler einzubauen? Am besten gar nicht, aber das ist natürlich keine Option. Fangen wir daher mit etwas Harmlosen an: Den dritten Teil steht bei uns zu Hause in dreifacher Ausführung. Die deutsche Ausgabe meines Freundes, mein englisches Exemplar und mein ebook für die abendlichen Lese-Sessions, bei denen ich zu faul bin, das Buch in den Händen zu halten. Die Kombi aus Papier und „elektronisch“ war für mich sehr gut, insbesondere zu Beginn des Buches. Es handelt sich bei der Expanse-Serie um ganz klassische Science Fiction. Die einzelnen Bücher bauen aufeinander auf bzw. haben schon ziemlich viele „Schnittstellen“, sodass ich ein Einsteigen mitten in die Serie nicht empfehlen würde. Ein Manko ist für mich bei vielen Serien, dass die Charaktere für mich uninteressant werden, sich Elemente wiederholen oder eine Richtung inhaltlich eingeschlagen wird, die mir nicht zusagt. Umso glücklicher war ich, dass all dies im dritten Band nicht auftrat. Mein Problem war, dass sich der Einstieg zog. Für das Autorenpaar James Corey ist es ganz typisch, dass es mehrere Erzählstränge gibt, jedoch dauerte mir das dieses Mal einfach zu lange. Ich wollte mir von der Crew um den Protagonist Holden lesen, musste mich aber einige Zeit gedulden. Nach gut 150 Seiten wurde mein inneres Flehen jedoch erhöht und die Post ging ab. Auch in diesem Buch erkunden wir das All weiter, lernen mehr Geheimnisse kennen und haben so manch eine actiongeladene Szene. Von daher – Band vier ich komme!
Auch wenn es bis dato das meiner Meinung nach schwächste der Reihe ist, wieder eine wundervolle Weitererzählumg der Geschichte, die Lust auf mehr macht. Lediglich die POV Charaktere haben mich dieses Mal nicht ganz so bekommen wie im 2. Teil. Auch weil der Übergang häufig nicht so gut war wie in den vorangegangenen Bänden, sodass es mehrfach Dopplungen der Erzählungen gab. Bei Bull und Anna hat es bis zum Ende gedauert, bis ich mit den Charakteren warm geworden bin. Melba/ Clarissa war dafür eine sehr spannende Perspektive mit vielen interessant und gut erzählten Monologen. Und generell die Sicht einer Antagonistin mitzuerleben, war eine willkommene Abwechslung. Alles in allem deshalb ein super Buch und ich freue mich darauf weiter zu lesen.

We accompany our old crew from the Rocinante, but also Anna Volovodov a pastor from earth, Carlos de Baca (Bull) the security officer of the Behemoth (Belt) and Clarissa Mao (Melba)(Earth), who’s out to restore the good name of her father. As Holden and the Rocinante have to flee to the inside of the Ring, forces of the Earth, Mars and the Belt follow them, finding themselves trapped inside. Will the hostile forces unite in order to escape or will it end in a huge fight?
⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 I liked this book cause by now I’m really invested in Holden’s crew and the authors always manage to come up with a new dangerous situation caused by the protomolecule. I have to say this world is really complex and I needed my brain to read this but I don’t think that’s a bad thing. It leads to me being more interested, in this case. But I have to say this book was all about politics and there wasn’t as much action as there was in the last books. I also think the protomolecule has slipped to the background. This is why I didn’t like this book as much as the last two. Some parts also felt really dragged out and long and it took me quite some time to read it. Nevertheless, I will absolutely continue on with this series and I’m curious to see where the protomolecule will lead us next. (Will also continue cause I’m kind of reading this together at the same time with my dad which is always fun.) But yeah, I would really recommend this series if you enjoy sci-fi! It is well written and you grow to love the characters and the world!

Das dritte Buch in der EXPANSE Reihe hat die bisher größten Veränderungen zur TV Serie und 2 der 4 POV's sind von Charakteren die eher weniger vorkommen. Gerade viele Dinge die "Bull" erlebt hat, wurden in der Serie Ashford gegeben. Fand es auch schwierig mich dahingehend von der TV Serie zu distanzieren und das Buch für sich stehen zu lassen. Trotzdem war es wie schon die ersten beiden Bücher großartig geschrieben und ich liebe einfach die Crew der Rocinante. Auch interessant wie extrem gut manche Aspekte der Geschichte (z.B. Das Innere des Rings) in der TV Serie visualisiert wurden. Hätte vom Buch aus gedacht, dass es unverfilmbar wäre. Freur mich, weiterzulesen, vor allem weil ich weiß dass ab Nemesis Games (Buch 5) endlich eine meiner Lieblingscharaktere vorkommt. 😇
The plot in this was just exquisite. Had me clenching my cheeks even though I knew it all had to work out. For having three new viewpoint characters, I ended up loving it despite being a bit iffy about it at first. I loved Clarissa's arc, and I honestly hope she stays a part of the series even though it seems doubtful. The religious aspect of this book was also really interesting. 4.5/5 for this entry, I loved it.
The third book in the Expanse series was great again. Fantastic characters really let this one shine. An interesting look at how our politicians, religions and different people would react to the discovery that we are truly not alone in this universe. The story is well paced and true to the series very action packed. More POVs are truly helping to keep it interesting. Like the other books it's more an action space movie/book rather than an epic space opera like Peter F. Hamilton. No wonder it was picked up to be a mini series.
Gotta say, this series represents one of the rare cases where I actually prefer the TV-show. THe latter just feels so much richer and the characters more 3dimensional. I do appreciate all the building blocks these books provide for the show however and it did have some very intense and interesting scenes. I'm simply not the biggest fan of the writing style.
