Ein Krimi ganz nach meinem Geschmack
Spannende Handlung, interessante Figuren und dazu noch etwas Tiefgang und Wissen über ein vorher unbekanntes Land, was will man mehr? Für mich jedenfalls genau das richtige. Ich fand auch die Übersetzung sehr gelungen und gut lesbar, ich bin froh, mich dafür und nicht das Original entschieden zu haben. Karin Diemerling ist das Kunststück gelungen, dass sich die Kreolpassagen in den Dialogen gleich anfühlen, als wenn ich englisch lese, ohne dabei unnatürlich, schwer verständlich oder peinlich zu sein.
Ein Krimi, der nur langsam Fahrt aufnimmt.
Wir begleiten den Hauptcharakter, ab dem Moment, als er von einem der Inselpolizisten "adoptiert" wird und überzeugt wird zur Polizei zu kommen. Wir erfahren auch einiges über seine Familie. Jahre und eine Ausbildung in England später, ist er zurück auf den kleinen Artillen (Camoha) in der Karibik. Wo die Menschen ihren eigenen Lebensstil und ihre eigene Religion haben. Sie ermitteln gleichzeitig an einem Cold Case und einem Opfer, das gerade gefunden wurde... Nachdem der Krimi Fahrt aufgenommen hat, wird es sogar ein bisschen spannend. Da der Fall rund um seine Mutter noch nicht aufgeklärt ist, könnte ich mir vorstellen, dass es der Auftakt zu einer Reihe ist. Aber wieso die 2. Ermittlerin sprechen muss, wie eine Mental eingeschränkte Person, hat sich mir nicht erschlossen. Und irgendwann haben mir die Mister Digga und die Missus ... (die zu allem Überfluss noch lispelt) echt gereicht. Nichts besonderes, aber ich wurde gut unterhalten.
