Description

Edgar Allan Poe, the father of American horror fiction, first published his macabre short story "The Black Cat" in the August 19, 1843 edition of The Saturday Evening Post. The frightening tale of a murderer tormented by guilt over his terrible deeds is a classic. The narrator's admission that much of his bad behavior and deranged thinking is the result of demon alcohol is possibly autobiographical, as Poe himself struggled with alcoholism throughout his life. This short work is part of Applewood's American Roots series, tactile mementos of American passions by some of America's most famous writers and thinkers.

From love to disgust. From Disgust to hatred. If you feel too safe in a cause, you betrays yourself once more. This was such a great short-story in a letter form. I couldn't believe what I read and just had to cry a bit. I really start to like Poe!

This is very similar to The Tell-Tale Heart, only less intriguing and featuring animal abuse. The writing is still gorgeous, but the story is not as great as the former.

Overall I enjoyed it as much as I can enjoy audiobooks (which I usually don’t do, I prefer reading), I would probably like it more if I would have read it instead of listening to it

The Black Cat follows the narrator's descent as his obsession with a cat leads to horrific consequences.
