Ich finde es sehr schwer dieses Buch klassisch zu "bewerten", weil es sich einfach nicht um Fiktion handelt. Trotzdem ein kleiner Einblick: Die Recherchearbeit des Autoren muss wahnsinnig aufwändig gewesen sein, er hat die Menschen wirklich sehr präzise beschrieben. Die (wenigen) eingebauten Dialoge klingen authentisch, auch wenn sie natürlich nicht zu 100 % rekonstruiert werden können. Das Buch war auf jeden Fall kein leichtes Buch, das man nebenbei mal liest. Die Stimmung ist natürlich sehr düster und aussichtslos, man kann gut mitfühlen, wie die Situation sich immer weiter zuspitzt. Manchmal hat es sich etwas gezogen, was natürlich auf die extrem hohe Informationsdichte und die Detailverliebtheit des Autoren zurückzuführen ist. Das fand ich aber nicht weiter schlimm - so hatte man Zeit, das Gelesene auch zu verarbeiten. Ingesamt ein wirklich gelungenes Buch, das hautnah die Geschehnisse des Holocaust und des Lebens von Oskar Schindler erzählt. Dieses Buch sollte man auf jeden Fall gelesen haben!
2.5 stars I am not sure what this book wants to be. Historical fiction ? Biography ? History textbook? In the end, it reads like an author of fiction trying his hand at historical nonfiction. And it simply does not work. The story itself is important and must be told and known — but the writing / style is simply awful and I feel that many of the five-star-reviews just chose to neglect this in favor of the important subject matter. People say that in this case, the film is actually better than the novel (if that’s what it is?), so maybe I will give the adaptation a try.
