Ich liebe dieses Buch
Ich habe die erste Hälfte dieses Buches innerhalb von einer Woche gelesen und die andere Hälfte auf einer 7-stündigen Busfahrt nach Wien. So schnell habe ich schon lange kein Buch mehr durchgelesen und es hat mich auch schon lange kein Buch mehr so sehr zum Lachen gebracht. Ja, die Welt ist interessant, wobei ich gerne etwas mehr zu den verschiedenen Nationen gelernt hätte, und der Plot ist spannend, aber was dieses Buch wirklich ausmacht ist die Comedy. Der Hauptcharakter Avra ist großartig, so pathetisch und nervig, aber gleichzeitig so sympathisch. Und die Dynamik zwischen ihm, dem stoischen und genervten nichtbinären Piratenkapitän Teveri und dem extrem gutaussehendem Mönch Julian mit revolutionären Ideen ist absolutes Gold wert. Dazu kommen dann noch so Dinge wie: blau leuchtende Hunde, ein bewaffneter Backwettbewerb und schweinische Sea Shanties. Und schmutzige Witze (soo viele davon), die mich echt überrascht haben, weil mir übersexualisierte Bücher normalerweise sehr unangenehm sind und dieses überhaupt nicht. Vielleicht weil die Witze zum großen Teil Wortwitze sind? Weil sich das Buch nicht ernst nimmt? Weil niemand objektifiziert wird? Keine Ahnung. Jedenfalls hat mich das Buch mit alle seinem Charme überrollt und ich habe das Gefühl ich kann ihm in dieser Rezension überhaupt nicht gerecht werden.

Trying to make the most money off of it he gets himself into more trouble than he has bargained for. With a heavy heart I had to DNF this book. On paper the setting and characters should have worked perfectly for me but I wasn't prepared for the volume and frequency of vulgarity and sexual themes. The writing style was just not to my taste. But if you like an unhinged, horny story set on the sea, definitely give it a try. I listened to this as an audiobook and the narration by Casey Jones is great. Their voice was very fitting for the characters and pleasant to listen to. A big thanks to NetGalley and the publisher RB Media for giving me the opportunity to read an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
