Rama II, aka “What if we sent politicians, tourists, and emotional baggage into deep space, what could possibly go wrong?” Less serene cosmic mystery, more “space mission run by a dysfunctional committee.” Still fascinating, just with extra stress and worse teamwork.

Rama II shifts the tone from the quiet, clinical mystery of the first book into something far messier and way more human. This time, a large international crew enters Rama, and instead of pure scientific awe, we get politics, ego, fear, and people proving that space travel does not magically upgrade emotional maturity. At the center stands Nicole des Jardins, who is honestly superhero material: brilliant, compassionate, resilient, and somehow still functional while everyone else spirals. She’s not just surviving Rama, she’s carrying the mission on her back. I adored how much more we learn about the spacecraft itself: its structure, its strange ecosystems, and the eerie alien biots. And then there’s Richard, wonderfully quirky and human, adding warmth and complexity. The inclusion of Shakespeare? Unexpected, dramatic, iconic. I loved this more than book one: deeper characters, higher emotional stakes, and Nicole being the role model we all deserve.
