Description
When fourteen-year-old Padmé Naberrie wins the election for Queen of Naboo, she adopts the name Amidala and leaves her family to the rule from the royal palace. To keep her safe and secure, she'll need a group of skilled handmaidens who can be her assistants, confidantes, defenders, and decoys. Each girl is selected for her particular talents, but it will be up to Padmé to unite them as a group.
When Naboo is invaded by forces of the Trade Federation, Queen Amidala and her handmaidens will face the greatest test--of themselves, and of each other.

I love Padmé. She's a strong female character who throughout the star wars series and movies fights for the good. This novel plays right before phantom menace and it was nice to see how strong and determined Padmé was even as a young queen. I loved the handmaidens and how they along side Padmé got established as main characters. This story showed how it was difficult for Padmé to be a friend to her handmaidens while also being a queen. All in all, a very good book about one of the strongest female characters in the universe of star wars.
Wieder ein sehr lesenswertes Buch aus dem Star Wars-Universum. Es war faszinierend, mehr aus Padmes Leben zu erfahren, ihre Hintergründe kennenzulernen. Auch das Leben als Königin lernt man hier aus einer anderen Sicht kennen als die Filme es zeigen. Johnston schreibt einfach, aber eindringlich. Die Figuren werden lebendig, greifbar. Immer mal wieder erhält man Einblicke in ihre Gedanken und Gefühle. Die Welt von Star Wars wird so erneut vertieft, kommt einem näher. Ich empfand grossen Respekt vor dieser jungen Gruppe von Mädchen, die sich in einer Welt der kriegsführenden Erwachsenen zu behaupten weiss. Auch hier werden Themen wie Freundschaft, Liebe und Loyalität behandelt. Doch wenn man es mit Amidala zu tun hat, wird alles noch ein wenig komplizierter als dass es sowieso schon ist. Ein rundum gelungener Roman also, der dieses Universum um mehrere starke Frauenfiguren erweitert. Im Übrigen: Ist das Cover nicht ein wahrer Hingucker?
