Brilliant scientist Rose Franklin has devoted her adult life to solving the mystery she accidentally stumbled upon as a child: a huge metal hand buried beneath the ground outside Deadwood, South Dakota. 2.5* Leider konnte mich der Abschluss der Themis Files nicht ganz so überzeugen wie die beiden vorherigen Teile. Only Human konnte mich leider nie so richtig fesseln, ich bin leider nie wirklich wieder in die Geschichte rein gekommen. Auch dieser Teil behandelt wieder ein paar interessante Ideen und zudem lernt man auch viel über die Aliens und ihre Gesellschaft, doch leider hat mir dabei teilweise etwas die Tiefe gefehlt. Ich hatte das Gefühl vieles ging einfach zu schnell und dennoch hatte ich beim Lesen das Gefühl kaum vorwärts zu kommen. Viele der Dinge die passieren haben riesige Konsequenzen, doch anstatt mehr auf diese einzugehen, fokussiert die Geschichte oft auf die persönlichen Konflikte der Figuren die zwar auch interessant sind, doch daneben teilweise etwas übertrieben wirken, besonders da sie teilweise schlicht auf Missverständnissen beruhen. Dennoch regen gewisse Dinge zum nachdenken an und ich hätte mir nur gewünscht, dass der Autor stärker hätte auf diese Entwicklungen eingehen können. Die Erzählweise der Geschichte hat mir wieder sehr gut gefallen, allerdings fand es teilweise etwas schwierig den Dialogen zu folgen wenn mehr als zwei Personen miteinander redeten. Ausserdem gab es auch eine neue Figur, die mir leider schnell ziemlich auf die Nerven ging und die für mich auch nicht so ganz in die Geschichte gepasst hat. Kurz gesagt war Only Human voller interessanter Ideen und hätte das Potential gehabt ein toller Abschluss für die Trilogie zu werden, doch leider hatte ich an der Umsetzung doch einiges zu bemängeln. Dennoch würde ich die Themis Files insgesamt weiterempfehlen für alle die eine unterhaltsame und kurzweilige Reihe lesen möchte, die einige interessante Ideen anschneidet.
A nice finish to the Themis file series. At some parts the story felt a bit predictable and lackluster BUT it was a nice storyline. It did something the other two books in the series didn’t do as much: it offered a full blown commentary on humanity that is applicable to almost every point in history and also it made me smile, laugh, cry, shake my head. Somehow in this book the emotions just hit me even more.
A somewhat solid end to a very cool series. But the potential was not used at all. Something was lacking, friends, and I am sad about it. I also think that the author maybe killed off the wrong people and so the story felt flat. There was a build up and then something happend, which made a lot basically for nothing. This series was very entertaining though! I had much fun and many characters were very dear to me. And I normally don't say that this often, but here I'm gonna: I wished it was longer, or maybe a 4th book was added to use that potential and make the build up worth it.
