On Wings of Blood: A Dark Academia Fantasy Romance (Bloodwing Academy Book 1)

Optisch ist das Buch eine 10/10 - die Story naja

Ich hab mich sehr auf dieses Buch gefreut. Aber es war wirklich einfach nur schlecht. Von allen Fantasy-Elementen ein bisschen in den Topf geschmissen, geschüttelt und ins Buch gekippt. Ohne roten Faden, ohne Struktur, alles wird nur kurz angerissen, nichts durchdacht und zu Ende geführt. Eine Protagonistin, die durch ihre rotzige Art nur negativ auffällt und einem schnell auf die Nerven geht.

„On Wings of Blood“ war für mich ein echtes Highlight und hat mich von der ersten Seite an gefesselt. Briar Boleyn erschafft mit der Bloodwing Academy eine düstere, geheimnisvolle und unglaublich atmosphärische Welt, in der man sich sofort verliert. Die Idee, eine Drachenreiterin unter Vampiren gefangen zu halten, ist nicht nur originell, sondern sorgt durchgehend für Spannung, Misstrauen und Nervenkitzel. Medra ist eine Protagonistin, die ich sofort ins Herz geschlossen habe. Sie ist verletzlich, aber gleichzeitig stark, trotzig und entschlossen. Ihr innerer Konflikt – Opfer oder Kämpferin – zieht sich spürbar durch die Geschichte und macht ihre Entwicklung besonders intensiv. Man leidet, hofft und kämpft regelrecht mit ihr mit. Und dann ist da Blake Drakharrow… diese Dynamik zwischen den beiden ist knisternd, voller Reibung, Sarkasmus und unterschwelliger Anziehung. Genau diese Mischung aus Gefahr, Emotion und unausgesprochenen Gefühlen macht ihre Beziehung so fesselnd. Die tödlichen Wettkämpfe, die Geheimnisse des Schlosses, Verrat, Machtspiele und das gefährliche Erbe, das Medra in sich trägt – all das hält die Spannung konstant auf einem hohen Level. Gleichzeitig verliert die Geschichte nie den emotionalen Kern. Für mich vereint dieses Buch alles, was ich an Fantasy liebe: eine starke Heldin, eine düstere Akademie, komplexe Beziehungen, Geheimnisse und eine Welt, die man am liebsten gar nicht mehr verlassen möchte. Absolute Leseempfehlung!

Perfekte Mischung

Ein grandioser Auftakt! Tolles Worldbuilding, Spitzencharaktere, absolut Spannend - keine langatmigen Passagen! In der Story ist immer was los und wir erhalten an den richtigen Stelle die richtigen Infos damit die Story Tiefe hat. Ich mochte das Buch sehr und bin gespannt wie es weitergeht. Es sind so viele Fragen noch offen ! Top!

Das war schrecklich!

Ich habe das Prequel bewusst nicht gelesen und mich damit abgefunden in die Geschichte zu stolpern. Anfangs denkt man wirklich man ist bei Vampir Fourth Wing gelandet, doch leider ist der männliche Hauptcharakter einfach absolut uncool. Er ist unsicher und kindisch. Die Protagonisten finden sich körperlich anziehend, darüber hinaus ist aber schwer nachvollziehbar was sie miteinander zu tun haben sollten. Medra ist stark und mutig, während Blake sich widerlich verhält. Was teilweise noch belustigend ist, wird dann immer abartiger. Blakes Besessenheit ist nicht heiß sondern übergriffig. Nur Ja heist Ja hat er noch nie gehört, er nimmt sich einfach was er will und für sein Besitz hält. ich finde es absolut zu kotzen. Dazu kommt dass die Geschichte viel düsterer wird als erwartet. Diese Reihe wird auf keinen Fall zu Ende gebracht

MEINUNG: Nun die Story spielt wieder an einer "Academy". Irgendwie hab ich zur Zeit auf dieses Umfeld keine Lust. Daher werde ich mit dieser Reihe nach dem 1ten Buch erst mal pausieren. Die Idee mit den Highbloods gefällt mir schon, nur war mir die Geschichte (trotz Geschichtsunterricht) nicht glaubwürdig genug geschrieben. Die Story hat meiner Meinung nach, noch mehr Potential. Was ich aber für wirklich super halte ist, dass es im Laufe der Geschichte nicht um die geringe Lovestory geht. Sondern tatsächlich um den Werdegang der Protagonistin. Ich mag Medra, aber sie konnte im gesamten Buch bei mir keine Gefühle ervorrufen. Ich kann nicht einmal sagen, woran es liegt, aber ich war nie wirklich geschockt oder berührt. 😳 Auch den "Cliffhanger" hätte man noch viel imposanter kreieren können...Es schreit leider nichts in mir, das nächste Buch zu beginnen. Wow, war das Gut. Ich weiß gar nicht so ich anfangen soll, weil mir einfach so vieles gut gefallen hat. Es ist spicy, knisternd und sehr gut geschrieben. Zudem kommen Drachen und Vampire vor, was will man da noch mehr? Richtig, eine heiße Lovestory, die durch Höhen und Tiefen geht. Aber man sollte vorab die Triggerwarnung lesen, da hier viel Gewalt drin vorkommt. Inhaltsangabe (Quelle Amazon) Dunkle Magie, tödliche Intrigen und eine verbotene Liebe – willkommen an der Bloodwing Academy! Medra Pendragon, die letzte Drachenreiterin ihrer Welt, wird an die Bloodwing Academy verschleppt – eine Schule, in der mächtige Vampire regieren und Seuchengeborene wie sie nur Schachfiguren sind. Doch das düstere Schloss birgt noch düsterere Geheimnisse und auch Medra trägt ein gefährliches Erbe in sich, das sie zur Zielscheibe werden lässt. Ich kann dieses Buch nur empfehlen! Ein absolut guter Auftakt, mit Medra Pendragon die quasi genötigt wird an der Bloodwong Academy zu studieren und aus ihren Augen eine komplett neue Welt zu erleben. Der Plot gibt wahnsinnig viel her - Freundschaft, Intrigen, Liebe, Vampire und Drachen. Was will man mehr?! Für alle die auf Fourth Wings stehen, ein absolutes Muss! Ich glaube, das Buch wird noch richtig durch die Decke gehen auf dem deutschen Markt und frage mich ernsthaft wo bisher der ganze Hype geblieben ist. Den halben Stern ziehe ich übrigens nur ab, weil die EBook Version mir ziemlich auf den Keks ging.. 😅

Dark Academia packt mich immer

Took me very long to finish this book since there was so much filler story. Blake is so insufferable. He just wants to own Medra and control her, doesn’t see her as an independent person. His possessiveness and repetitive claiming “You’re mine” is getting annoying. He has anger issues and can’t tame his temper. I don’t care if he wants her, she certainly doesn’t belong to him and he gave her no reason to wanting to be involved with him despite their forced betrothal. I hope they don’t get together romantically because he’s so unlikable and doesn’t respect her at all trying to command her around all the time. Their banter of constantly saying “I hate you“ also really got on my nerves like ok we get it. Some spoilers from now on. I already disliked him at the beginning when he let Visha beat Medra to a pulp, breaking her ribs and not stepping in. How could you let her get hurt so badly and be so indifferent? (My LADS men would never let that happen iykyk). Seriously Kage was so much nicer for instance but unfortunately didn’t get involved much with her other than the ball. Y‘all, consent is sexy. They could’ve bonded without him manipulating and misleading her drinking his blood and then biting her without permission. Atp I’m with Medra, he didn’t have the right to do this and I don’t care either if he can now only drink from her, just let him die for the consequences of violating her autonomy. People keep saying they like a morally grey MMC but that would just be a toxic relationship. The lack of consent and respect of her own will is just not it. I don’t see anything attractive about Blake’s personality or actions. The only good thing about him was that he’s hot and has tattoos. The hierarchy of highbloods and blightborn was also really frustrating to me, a world build on racism and mind control to keep the blightborn in check. It was really intriguing to read about but I felt so unjust. Also, did we really have to deal with bully mean girls Regan and her friends? This was so annoying overall. I also didn’t like the idea of them having to form a triad, especially since Regan despised Medra so much. The Consort Games also only happened very late in the book and fell rather flat with not much happening or fueling our imagination and ending way too abruptly. ‘The Serpent And The Wings Of Night’ for example made the reader feel way more immersed in what was happening. I‘m usually very nice with rating based on vibes, so despite not liking the MMC I enjoyed the overall world setting. I love vampire stories and academy life so that were the main reasons I picked this up. I didn’t expect this book to be so dark though and lacking romance, there was mostly only physical attraction between the main characters. And hello, the temple scene with that ritual? Nobody warned me about this type of voyeurism, exhibitionism gang bang stuff. Maybe the second book will be better, especially since a dragon finally showed up, but I’m in no rush to jump right into the second book, rather read some cozy romance books first and might think about continuing when the third book also came out.

Es muss schrecklich sein, wenn man aus seinem Leben gerissen wird und in einer anderen Welt auf einem Berg Leichen aufwacht. Medra lernt eine völlig fremde Kultur kennen und kommt so gar nicht mit ihr zurecht. Das Unrecht um sie ist immens und ihr Feinde zahlreich. Trotzdem findet sie einige gute Freunde und so mancher Feind entpuppt sich als Freund. Schade dabei nur, dass Blake nicht mit ihr redet, geschweige denn, ihr die Wahrheit sagt. Das Buch währe dann aber wahrscheinlich deutlich kürzer. Ich fand es sehr lesenswert und freu mich auf den nächsten Band.

Ich verstehe den Hype nicht

Weirdes horny Vampir Hogwarts mit so gut wie keinem Worldbuilding, mit anstrengenden und inkompetenten Hauptcharakteren und einem männlichen Hauptcharakter, der sich ihr in jeglicher Art aufdrängt und kein Nein akzeptiert. Das deutsche Hörbuch hat die Erfahrung nur verschlechtert, da es einfach nicht fertig war. Immer wieder haben sich Sätze und Wörter wiederholt und man hat gehört, wie die Sprecherin geübt hat Dinge auszusprechen. Warum veröffentlicht man so etwas? (Dafür kann die Autorin natürlich nichts, weshalb das nicht in die Bewertung mit eingeflossen ist)

Das Buch an sich hat mir mega gur gefallen. Die kombi mit den drachen und Vampiren fand ich auch mal erfrischend. Vorallem dass die prota die letzte reiterin ist🤭 Was war das bitte für ein Ende?!?!?! Der Verrat von ihm?! Ich will jetzt sofort wissen wie es weiter geht!🥲 Ich fand aber trotzdem, dass es sich am anfang sehr gezogen hat immer wieder mal, deshalb ein sterb abzug🙃

I had a hard time getting into this book - I read the beginning and did not pick it up for a while. Today I decided to give it a try again and found more things I liked - so I finished it. I do like the FMC a lot - but the MMC - I honestly don’t know :D I like Blake but I do not get him. He makes all these decisions - we as the reader know - but Medra stays in the dark a lot. I did not really like this. There is a good promise of a found family trope and all the secrets about Medras origin that I find intriguing. I do think that there are lot of things happening fast and not really easy to follow in my taste. The relationship between Medra and Blake is not really consistent and I don’t fully believe their feelings. The world is interesting and the side characters are nice. I will continue but I am not really sure if I’ll stick to the series. I had fun reading it but I did not fall of my chair. A especially would have loved some plot twist - cause there were none.

Hat mir sehr gut gefallen, toller Auftakt.

A Promising Storm in Need of a Clearer Forecast Let me start by saying: this book had me hooked just enough to keep flipping pages late into the night—but also left me side-eyeing it like a friend who keeps promising juicy gossip and then only gives you vague vibes and half-sentences. The plot? Genuinely suspenseful. There’s tension, intrigue, and a world that feels like it’s ready to burst with secrets. But for the sheer number of pages, I walked away with surprisingly few answers. The same questions kept circling like stubborn crows—squawking, pecking, but never actually delivering the goods. Curiosity drove me forward, but a sense of almost-satisfaction lingered like a half-eaten dessert you weren’t done with. What I did love was the writing style—engaging, smooth, with a strong voice. The double POV was a great call too, though the balance between Medra and Blake felt off. I wanted more from Blake’s side, especially when it came to the lore: the Rites, the secrets, the politics of the Highbloods and Brightbloods. Instead, I got a lot of Medra feeling confused while her friends and mentors offered the emotional support equivalent of a shrug and a cryptic smile. Like—are they her friends or just really pretty bystanders? Still, Medra herself? Loved her. A Fae girl with disabilities, dropped into a world of vampires (sorry, Highbloods) and humans (Brightbloods), fighting to stay independent and form real friendships? Chef’s kiss. Her bonds with Florence and Naveen were the heart of the book for me—sweet, sincere, a little heartbreaking. Even if they, too, could’ve done a better job, y’know, actually explaining things. Now, can we talk about Neville? Adorable. So fluffy. Confusing as hell. I don’t get why this precious little creature is emotionally torn between Florence and Blake—what was that about? Instead of deepening either character, Neville’s constant presence sometimes just felt… performative? Cute, sure, but maybe too much spotlight for too little payoff. And Blake. Oh, Blake. Do I want to hug him or hit him with a book? Depends on the page. He rebels against his good old Uncle Vincent—yay!—but then blindly follows other toxic rituals like a lost puppy—boo. The whole “you are mine” thing? Big red flag!

Auftakt ist gut, aber haut mich nicht um 🐉🔥❤️‍🔥

Also sagen wir mal ich lieb es, dass die Medra so ein BadAss Charakter ist und sich nichts gefallen lässt. Auch das Setting von der Academy (düster, spooky und verwunschen) gefällt mir sehr gut, aber irgendwie hat mich die Geschichte nicht so ganz abgeholt. Das Buch liest sich super schnell und einfach, aber es passiert in der Beziehung von Medra & Blake erst gar nichts und dann sehr viel sehr schnell, obwohl nur wenige Aufeinandertreffen erfolgen. Fand ich ein bisschen schade, dass da nicht mehr Entwicklung erfolgt ist bzw ma mitbekommen hat. Die Tension ist super geschrieben, aber irgendwas hat mir gefehlt.

Motivationen der Charaktere sind hier und da nicht ganz nachvollziehbar, aber Lesefluss war 1A 😊

Sehr schöne Gesichte und ein echter Slow burn 🔥

Ich muss sagen, dass mir der Slow burn bei diesem Buch sehr gut gefallen hat! Bis ca 50% haben die protas sich absolut gehasst und ab dann gab es auch nur vereinzeltes Interesse, welches nicht direkt geäußert wurde. Erst später gab es richtige Annäherung zwischen den beiden. Es gab 2 erzählperspektiven, wobei der Fokus auf medra lag. Das hat mir sehr gut gefallen. Das Buch war wirklich sehr fesselnd und konnte kaum beiseite gelegt werden! Ich bin sehr gespannt auf Band 2.
