Opening up possibilities

If you are a writer or on your way to become a writer, this book is a good way to open your eyes to the possibilities of Worldbuilding. It is a collection of various essays spanning a wide range of topics from fashion to religion to weapons. Marie Brennan, an award-winning fantasy author and more importantly a studied anthropologist, has a very inspiring way of showing the many different directions for possible fantasy worlds without making rules for "good" worldbuilding. (Which is highly subjective, let's be honest.) Her knowledge of different human practices and what makes us "tick" is a fountain for good ideas. I for once would have liked an even deeper view into each topic, but as I understood it, the length of each essay is restricted by them being part of a Patreon "course". And of course shorter essays allow for a much wider scope of topics in a relatively slim books. I would definitely recommend 'New Worlds' as a good starting point to muse and think about your own Worlds. It certainly triggers you to ask yourself different questions and try new lines of thought.
