Monstress Volume 2: The Blood

Since this is a sequel, I won't talk too much about the plot to avoid spoilers. I still enjoy the drawings and the art style a lot; I could stare at each panel for hours! The character designs are also awesome! I really like Maika, who is torn between her brutal reality and the last spark of decency left inside her. And Kippa, the clingy fox girl, is just too cute. I feel so bad for her, because she is still young and innocent, and yet keeps following Maika around despite all the dangers. The two-tailed cat Ren is another of my favorites; his interactions with everyone are so cool! His motives still aren't clear, but the way he looks out for Kippa melts my heart. It does get a bit overwhelming with all the other characters. Some are enemies, some are allies, and there are those mysterious forces behind everything that are pulling the strings. I am slowly starting to see that everything is related to some overarching plot, but it's hard to figure out more. I enjoyed reading this volume a lot! There was a lot of action, violence, and some enlightening flashbacks. I can't imagine where the story will take us next, which is why I am all the more curious to keep reading!

OH BABY, WE ARE SOOO BACK! Thank fuck I borrowed two volumes from the library in one go, because I FLEW through this in like half a day. I am hungry for more, this slaps ridiculously hard so far. Will never understand why my library keeps these in the YA section, because it's GRIM, but I am having the time of my gorey, dystopian fantasy, matriarchy LIFE! CNs for starvation, drug use (it's pretty much heroin, dressed up in thinly veiled new words), racism, blood, murder, physical violence, also against children

I switched from German to English for the second volume, and the continuous cursing is less awkward to me this way. Though it still forms a weird contrast to the style of the (still gorgeous) artwork - sadly not in the way of an interesting counter-point. The story line progresses in an interesting enough way, though, and the cat-monologues have become less, which is a plus.
