"[Wilsner writes] erotic yearning in a class all their own." - Entertainment Weekly
From Meryl Wilsner, the acclaimed author of Something to Talk About, comes Mistakes Were Made, a sharp and sexy rom-com about a college senior who accidentally hooks up with her best friend's mom.
When Cassie Klein goes to an off-campus bar to escape her school's Family Weekend, she isn't looking for a hookup-it just happens. Buying a drink for a stranger turns into what should be an uncomplicated, amazing one-night stand. But then the next morning rolls around and her friend drags her along to meet her mom-the hot, older woman Cassie slept with.
Erin Bennett came to Family Weekend to get closer to her daughter, not have a one-night stand with a college senior. In her defense, she hadn't known Cassie was a student when they'd met. To make things worse, Erin's daughter brings Cassie to breakfast the next morning. And despite Erin's better judgement-how could sleeping with your daughter's friend be anything but bad?-she and Cassie get along in the day just as well as they did last night.
What should have been a one-time fling quickly proves impossible to ignore, and soon Cassie and Erin are sneaking around. Worst of all, they start to realize they have something real. But is being honest about the love between them worth the cost?
"Wilsner proves their serious romance range with a sophomore novel that laughs in the slow-burning face of their debut by kicking off with a hookup that'll have you fanning your face for days." - Buzzfeed
"A steaming hot, thoughtful story about all kinds of love, featuring a firecracker of a couple that's impossible not to root for." - Women's Health

"Curiosity killed the cat, and enough p*ssy had been wrecked tonight"

Really loved this! One of my first reads after a long reading slump and it was a great decision, it is super fast paced, NO slow burn which I normally want in my romances but the tension was still so great and I ooved the chemistry. I was scared to have an annoying 3-act breakup (that would have made my read less enjoyable) but to my surprise I was pleased with how the suthor dealt with it. Dont expect a life changing read, it is fun and queer and damn good at it. P.s: read this in the train next to a dude who was absorbed in his read of Dostoevsky while my characters were fingering each other
Absolute Empfehlung!
The good news: she likes someone.... The bad news: it's her best friend's mum

read this in 3 days and would have finished it in one if i would have had the time (also we‘re doing this in english now?) a girl literally living my dream (aka dating a mom - her best friends mom), the first half of the book was just very detailed descriptions of lesbian sex after that it was also very much about friendship, forgiveness and childhood trauma (but also mainly about sex) devoured it, surprised by the ending but really entertained, loved the characters!!!!
Tropes: – slow burn love – one night stand – sapphic – best friend‘s mom – age gap – women in STEM – Birthday Girl vibes – secret relationship – dual PoV
There is still a long way to go when it comes to sapphic books and especially spicy sapphic books that aren‘t sweet rom coms. I do mean it when I say, I need more books like this one. Books that center around two women AND are spicy AND sensual. This book is literally the sapphic version of Birthday Girl, and I‘m all here for that. I loved the tension between Cassie and Erin. I did feel it so very much. And at the same time there is good plot, not ‘just good spice‘. We get to find out who these two women are, and get to experience their character development. I also like that the supportive characters are no faceless nobodies, but that the book took time introducing them and let them play their roles in the protagonists lives without taking any time away from Erin and Cassie. For example Parker - Erin’s daughter and Cassie‘s best friend. The ending is rather fast in comparison to the rest of the book that is truly a slow burn. But that doesn‘t take away from how much I did enjoy reading it, how much I smiled while reading and how fast I flew through the pages.

Initially, it took me a few pages to ease into the author's way with words since I wasn't expecting it to be that explicit, but once I got past that, it was an enjoyable read. Steamy from the get go with lots of plausible struggles displayed by each and every character and their own ways of handling things. A light read, tugging at your heartstrings just the right amount.
Okay, listen. The night I started reading this book, I almost gave up on it. I HATED the first chapter. I didn't like it one bit. Yet, I was soon enchanted by the book. All things I worried about were clearly unfounded and the second half of it made me feel fuzzy and warm! I finished the last words with a smile and I am so glad I kept going after the uncomfort the first chapter gave me.
This is going into my DNF for now. Maybe I‘ll get back to it? maybe not This was praised to be THE Milf-Book. But it did not live up to my expectations. And I think I'm able to judge because I grew up reading age-gap stories on wattpad and AO3 since I was 12 (and still do). The storyline was flat (I got to like 50%) and the plot felt like a lousy sidestory just to get something in between the spice. Maybe the plot would've gotten better? The relationship was not good. I felt sorry for the daughter (don‘t recall any names tbh) and it just felt cringe that they were friends but she was also shaggin her mom. I dont know. That's not my kind of age-gap. I've read better age-gap stories by people who's first language isn't even english. Spoiler > I heard that in the end they end up getting married and I can‘t get over the fact that she is now the step-mom of her best friend???
The writing was great. The sex scenes were great. The rest was fine. I did really enjoy reading this but mostly because I like the writing and it's also pretty easy to get through fast. The whole "Oh we shouldn't be doing this" and 10 seconds later they're fucking again was kinda annoying. I did like Erin (mostly because I prefer older women lmao) but I didn't really care for Cassie or the other characters. If my mom dated my best friend without telling me I'd definitely be mad.
