Didn’t finish. Actually I didn’t get further than page 4, because the portrayal of the mother is deeply hurting real disabled people. Why is disability in books always either used for Hope Porn(TM) or faked to gain something, combined with a rather disgusting personality of the person faking to be disabled? Of course there might be some people who actually fake disability in real life. (Which in fact is quite naive because at the same time many real disabled people won’t make their disability known as that might lead to being fired, not getting any jobs, higher insurance costs, ... the disadvantages of being disabled outrank the few perks by far!) But this trope is way overused and causes us real disabled people to get stigmatized even more. So no, I don’t feel inclined to read yet another portrayal of how disabled people act helpless just to terrorize everyone around. Of how you can’t trust a disabled person when they claim they don’t feel well. That’s just ableist!
