Description

The only way to secure her dream is to marry a handsome stranger . . .

When Rose and Jack meet, she has just lost her uncle, and with him her dream of owning a coffee shop. Rose wanted nothing more than to open a café in her uncle’s building. But her uncle’s will is clear – the building goes to Rose’s husband. Not to her.

Then, his lawyer, Jack, offers an unusual solution… she can marry him. She’ll get the café and he’ll get the building. For some reason, Rose agrees.
It might be a marriage of convenience but it’s anything but simple. Despite it being his idea, Jack is unbearably surly... But then he does something that shows Rose he might just have a softer side.

Maybe love can start with a contract… but will Rose still feel that way when she learns the full terms of their deal?

This book was so beautiful. Rose and Jack have my heart. *cries* I loved every part of this book from the beginning to the end. It was just the perfect amount of fluff and angst. The tension. The slow burn. It couldn’t possibly be written better! I laughed, I was angry and I cried a lot reading this! It was an emotional rollercoaster but I wouldn’t change it for anything. It was simply perfect. If I had to describe the perfect contemporary slow burn romance it would be exactly this book. Definitely among my favorite books this year!!! ——————second read: still as in love. Giggled like a child at Christmas the entire time. This was exactly the palette cleanser i needed to start my fantasy month. 5

So conflicted over this book. Liked it in the beginning but the second half become boring and weird to me. The drama is too much and seems very forced. Jack is a smart man I'm sure he would have figured out that just talking to her and telling her about her con fiance would have been the best choice. And even if he didn't some things in the story were dragged out too much and seemed illogical like her being a b to him and then not signing the divorce papers. I don't know how to explain but they're both smart both of them should and could have found a better way to communicate but then again it's a romance book and drama is needed even if it's stupid like the premise of the story in the first place. I accepted it tho because it's fiction. I like the writer's writing style and I liked the couple together. Stalking aside, he seems like a nice dude I guess he just needs therapy and should apologize.

2 ⭐️ I liked the slowburn aspect. There wasn't much plot, but that's okay for the story itself. At some points I enjoyed the relationship between the two, but that changed from moment to moment. He gave massive obsessive stalker vibes and that was a big no-no for me. If it wasnt for that and the whole storyline behind it, I would have rated it way higher. The only line that stuck to me: ,Rough life, stalker life’ - not a good sign I guess.

communication is so sexy

I’d heard great things about this one and really wanted to like it. So many pointless details and events though… so much incoherent, out of character and utterly unrealistic behavior. Not for me, gave up at the 50% mark.

3

Süße Story, aber immer das selbe Narrativ....

The plot is very simple and follows a lot of american romance cliché. But I really enjoyed the writing style.

More around a 1.5 Stars, but I got this gifted and I just can’t give this a lower rating Unfortunately this was just not it, for me. I realize that everyone has different taste and opions in books but since I read Charlie, Love and Clichés by this author and actually really liked it, I had high expectations for this one. My main issue was Jack our MMC. He was described as grumpy, but his actions were just straight up rude and that’s a no no for me. I personally didn’t see any growth in these characters, despite being a 500 page book. Rose, our FMC, was also a tiny bit annoying but overall I enjoyed reading about her more. Though I still don’t understand what made her like him around the 300 page mark, because nothing changed about these two. He was still rude. They still barely talked with each other and if they talked, I wouldn’t even call they conversations friendly. Finally with my issue, for not seeing any chemistry between these two, the spicy scenes felt very uncomfortable and awkward and more like two strangers. Anyway you win some you lose some, it’s ok, maybe the next is better.

I loved this. The plot twist was a bit much but it was a great read nonetheless

Ahhh this book just love. I just love it! ❤️

Update after rereading: I'm going to have to lower my rating to a 3.5 because this book lost its sparkle over the years. Mariage for One was one of the first romance books I've read after previously only reading fantasy/ sci-fi and while I loved it the first time around it wasn't anything special to me this time. It's still a great book I#ve just read better Exactly the kind of romance that I love! It did start a little too slow for me, but after about 20% it gets so amazingly good it's ridiculous! I could've finished this book in one sitting but I didn't want it to end...

This is a marriage of convenience story. My favorites. So, Rose is in a pickle. She was supposed to open her cafe in NYC in a few weeks but the rug has been kind of pulled from under her feet when her uncle, the owner of the cafe dies and it’s passed down to his children, unless Rose married whithin the next week. Of course, her fiance has just left her, leaving her without any potential spouse to salvage all the money and effort she has put into this project. In comes Jack. Jack is a lawyer at the firm employed by her uncle, to deal with all his business ventures and his will. Jack has a proposition (a proposal) for Rose. They get married, Rose gets the local for the cafe for 2 years and then he owns it. She’s surpised but accepts and thus starts their relationship. I LOVE THIS BOOK! Sometimes, people on instagram don’t lie, although mostly they do. What did I love ? The romance, I love a good marriage of convenience, the awkwardness of the beginning, the pinning, will they/won’t they, the questionning whether they feel the same. ugh, so good. And this book is really good at all of this. The relationship builds slowly, I loved Rose counting the numbers of time Jack smiled at the beginning and the little genuine attentions. All of it. I also really appreciated the twist. There is always a 3rd quarter conflict and something this book does really well is, it tells you what the twist is going to be. The whole time, the whole story, you’re waiting for the moment for it to be exposed, because you know what is going to happen. Except actually you don’t, the book misdirects you in such a way that the surprise is even bigger and I loved it!!!! So well done I honestly don’t have anything bad to say abot this book so yeah, 5 stars

I‘m in love with this book! And even though I read it two years ago with many many re-reads in between, it’s still #1 on my list of romance books. Nothing has beaten this book until now. For me it has the perfect amount of slowburn. The perfect amount of grumpiness from the MC and perfect amount of kind, emotional but also strong character from the FC. And if you love slowburn romances, marriage of convenience, with a grumpy man who cracks open slowly and an emotional, strong but not too „ladylike“ woman, then READ THIS! The relationship buildup was really good, not to fast. Same goes for the intimacy between both of them. I loved it, but of course this depends on the likeness of each reader, I go by „less is more“ when it comes to intimacy in slowburn books. But don’t get me wrong, this book has it‘s spice
