For more than ten thousand years they have waited patiently. There had been no record of their presence until a black mass devoured an American tourist whole in the deep forest of Peru. Thousands of miles away, an FBI agent investigates a fatal plane crash in Minneapolis and makes a gruesome discovery. Unusual seismic patterns register in an earthquake lab in India, confounding the scientists there.
