Was für eine tolle Story ♥️ Ich liebe alles daran & wollte es gar nicht mehr aus der Hand legen.
Ich hätte nicht gedacht, dass sich "Just as you are" (So wie du bist) zu so einem mega Highlight für mich entwickeln würde. Aber das hat es und ich will dieses Buch allen in die Hand drücken!!! Was für ein Pageturner! Ich liebe alles an diesem Buch! Ich habe beim Lesen schon lange nicht mehr Tränen in den Augen gehabt, aber Camille Kellogg hat es geschafft. Ich habe gelacht, geweint, gelacht, den Atem angehalten vor Spannung, die Hände zusammengeschlagen. Es war ein wilder, emotionaler Ritt. Warum ich das Buch so sehr mag? Die Story ist dynamisch, die Charaktere sind wunderbar gestaltet und fühlen sich echt an. Insbesondere Liz mit ihrem Biss und ihrer direkten Art, konnte mich begeistern. Ich kann mir gut vorstellen, dass sich viele Leser*innen mit den Themen, auch mit Liz Gedanken zur Selbstwahrnehmung ihrer Identität, identifizieren können. Kellogg selbst sagt zu ihrer Story, dass es die Geschichte ist, die sie als junge Person selbst gebraucht hätte, als sie mit 20 ihr coming-out hatte und sehr verloren gefühlt hat. Und das merkt man ihrem gesamten Text an. Es steckt so viel Detail und Aufklärung in diesem Roman, ich bin einfach begeistert. Bitte lest diesen Roman: Er ist klug, spannend, absolut humorvoll, queer durch und durch, und auch ein bisschen sexy. Quasi eine queere Version von "Stolz und Vorurteil".
Ich möchte dem Buch-Setting ein Lob aussprechen. Ich mochte, dass die Figuren bei einem queeren Magazin arbeiten und einige davon zusammen in einer WG wohnen. Ich mag sehr, dass man dahingehend mit den Figuren mitwächst. Jane hat der Geschichte sehr viel Menschlichkeit und Wärme gegeben. Allgemein sind die Figuren wundervoll divers. Ich persönlich fand aber leider die Entwicklung zw. Liz und Daria nicht sehr glaubwürdig und gegen Ende dann super rushed. Die Charakterentwicklung von Daria ist für mich recht unglaubwürdig. Ihre Arroganz und die unfreundlichen und respektlosen Arschloch-Kommentare vom Anfang, kann man für mich nicht mit Unsicherheit entschuldigen. Auch wie viel Hate Liz am Ende abbekommt, ist meiner Meinung nach unverdient.
Es war schön eine Handlung zu haben, die von Queeren Menschen NACH der Schul- und Collegezeit handelt. Viele Themen waren sehr relatable. Trotzdem hätte ich gerne nach dem "Happy End" mehr relationship gesehen. Mag an dem Buch besonders, dass es ein Interview mit der Autor*in, sowie discussion topics inkludiert. Dadurch gibt es mehr Optionen zur Reflektion des Buches. solid 4
This is lesbian Pride and Prejudice, it is the exact same, except not at all; it is modern, but keeps the same character beats; it follows the same story structure, but shifts a few of the characters around (especially those whose motivations become void in a modern and/or queer context); IT IS ALL THAT A PRIDE AND PREJUDICE FAN (who also likes modern romances) CAN DESIRE.
I was sucked into this story and couldn’t put the book aside! I really loved the characters, the diversity and I could definitely identify with Liz and her problems & insecurities. This book made me fall in love with Daria, broke my heart and healed it in the end ❤️ The author did an amazing job and I hope there will be more books soon!
