Alexandra is a Lady and one of the only female archeologist. She also happens to be broke. Piers is a duke, who needs to get married, is order to make sure his former lover, now married to his cousin (because she though he had died) never becomes a duchess. Went they meet, sparks fly but Alexandra is warry of men after a fateful evening 10 years ago. Also, Piers is supposed to announce his bethrothal to her best friend, Francesca, against her will. So when Alexandra proposes to get married with Piers, he’s skeptical but accepts. I didn’t do a great job of summarizing this one, uh? Well, all you have to know is that you should read it if you like marriage of convenience and historical romance. Actually, to be totally honest, I almost DNF’ed this one. The beginning is quite slow, with a lot of names and there is appearance of OW drama, which I hate. But I hate it even more when the drama is between the heroine and someone she’s close with. So realizing Alexandra was supposed to get with the guy Francesca was about to be engaged to was a LOT to deal with for me. Thankfully, the author makes it pretty obvious that there is no love lost between Piers and Frank, which is reassuring. And moreover, that Piers is into Alexandra right away. Also reassuring, to me at least. The plot is an assationation attempte mysetery, on top of our couple falling in love. I think it was rather well done. I liked how the romance unfurled, it’s not overly common but it was really entertaining. The hero is the half of the face scarred type, which is really popular in historical romance and honestly, I’m never mad at it. Overall loved it.
