This book really hit home. The connection to what's currently happening in the world is too real. The way the red flags have been visible from the beginning, the way the manipulation was done, it was really scary and way too realistic.

"Innocent until proven guilty." "Yeah, and how many times has that little rule worked in favor of black women?"

I don't think I'm a fan of Jackson's writing. It feels so.....middle schooler's first Wattpad book to me.

Well, no!

Alright, as much as I love this writer, there’s just one book that she wrote that I actually like. I really was interested in this book and like all of the remaining books by her that I haven’t read yet but it turns out that this one is just so weird and it’s featuring like really weird characters that you absolutely hate the second you hear the names I wasn’t able to fall in love with this book at all Thank God I was doing a 30 day book challenge where I was trying to read 30 books in 30 days and this was one of them so I was only dealing with it for a couple hours on one day and did not spend weeks on it. I think I actually dnf this book at around 80% into the book just because I couldn’t deal with it any longer and a story was getting really boring because it was just so weird. I can’t even explain how I feel about this book because I don’t think there is a word for it. I was just cringing out and even though I love a bloody story like this one. It just wasn’t gripping me and I couldn’t really read this one without hating having to spend time reading this.

This is a book everyone should read, a book that shows what the abuse of power can lead to, and what will happen if we continue to blame the victims of manipulation (especially Black women) while excusing grown men who knew better for their behavior. Grown is a powerful yet unsettling story about Enchanted, who has been taken in by the R&B artists Korey Fields and was promised a career as a singer, and then one day wakes up with blood on her hands, a dead Korey Fields in the flat and no memory of what happened the night before.

Although I don’t feel in the position to rate this book, I as a woman who remembers how it is being a teenage girl, could empathize with girls like Enchanted who fell victim to grooming and gaslighting.

So... I think that the book covers some very important topics. But I don’t really know who the audience is? I do not think that this book is for a 14 year old but the cover and the summary suggest that that is the main audience.
