I couldn't put this down!

This book taught me a lot! Even though I doesn't put a focus on the political background, it explained the 'why' and 'how' pretty good without really demonizing anyone. The fall of Jugoslavia and the resulting war had been everywhere on the news, but I've been a child at the time. I didn't care. I should have. This book encouraged me to seek conversations with friends from Bosnia and friends from Serbia about the topic. The story of Atka and Hana and their whole family is a story of endurance, courage, but most of all love and hope. I'm glad they encountered mostly people who really wanted to help and didn't exploit or hurt them. But what stuck the most with me, what still gives me chills, were the parallels to today. The incomprehension how a war in Europe is still possible, how no one - not the UN, not the nabouring countries - dares to step in. Big, big recommendation on this book!
