I'll not rank this officially because -and I want to emphasise this- I am pretty sure I feel 3.5*-ish about this because I am not the target audience and not because this isn't a lovely book! The magical elements of this story are wonderful and it is great to be invited into these legends. Many will connect through the magic already and then white folk like me learn a new thing or two! The friendship at the center of this adventure is kick-ass and the book deals with making a family even when a parent has left with great care. CW: absent mother (not dead), good and evil ghosts/other monsters/magic, financial struggle leading to worry over housing insecurity (resolved by the end of the story), several HP references Counting this for challenge no. 6 of Bookriot's Read Harder 2023 challenge: Listen to an audiobook performed by a person of color of a book written by an author of color.
