Elizabeth Lim has never not amazed me with her books, both her mythology retellings and her original stories. And this book is incredibly strong. Fishbone Cinderella is far away from a conventional Cinderella retelling. It's a story about mothers and daughters, about sacrifice, identity, and the invisible threads connecting generations. More than once, those relationships brought tears to my eyes. That said, with its dual timeline, multi-generational narrative, and constantly shifting locations, this is not a book to zone out to. Pay attention, or you'll get whiplash trying to piece everything together again. Elizabeth Lim's writing is, as always, absolutely beautiful.
