hmmm I’m not sure about this one. I was pretty intrigued about the whole teammates/female football player thing. And whilst that part was something totally new and great…. the rest of the book was a tad underwhelming. The main couples problems and struggles would have been resolved if they had just sat down at one point in all of those years and TALKED. And then later on they proceeded to not talk about the important stuff. They rather assumed the knew best and kept silent and suffered. ITS A NO FROM ME. I can stand many things. But miscommunication in any way or form is a big no for me. It annoys the big fuck out of me. (ITS GONNA GET SPOILERY NOW FOLKS. Keep skipping, until it says spoiler end in capitals, to be safe) They kinda were in love. And then the accident happened. And if they ever just fucking talked to each other about what she thought happened and what really went down that night… well no need to passionately hate him all those years babe. Also big L for you Gavin. You could have said something. You did eventually… years later?? Maybe tell her all that shit earlier? He knew she was mad angry at Zeke for that accident. Why not just tell her? But even after that big fuck up of miscommunication. Eventually he finally tells her. After they already got involved in some kind of friends with benefits because she thinks they could never have feelings for each other. Because she hates him. Whilst he is in love with her. BOY SPEAK UP. And eventually she realizes she likes him too. And they both don’t talk about it for a damn while. Makes me think they are both masochist and enjoy the silent suffering. And Riley whilst she was a badass on the field…. how she treated Zeke was painful to me. Yes she wants to hurt him. But is that the way to go? Stab him back? And then on something he is insecure about like his learning disordering and dyslexia? GIRL. And the big ending conflict. Is a weird thing. Over a copied essay? That’s all the author could think of? I mean I get it. She thought he was a selfish bastard for years and now he fucked her over too. But that was a bit of a heated reaction no? I also felt super bad for Zeke. She really hurt him there? For what? (Not to mention that all of this wouldn’t even have blown up that much… if someone had just opened their mouth and explained the accident to that girl. ) SPOILER END. It’s safe to resume from here on. so to sum this up: it’s a good read if your in the mood for a childhood best friends turned enemies turned teammates and roommates romance. Is it the best sports romance or childhood romance or forced proximity featuring book? Probably not. At least not for me. But the combo makes it an interesting story that’s def fun at times. But I would not recommend to all of us miscommunication aversed readers. Cause it left me a tad frustrated. I also kinda got bored after they started their friends with benefits thing. It was mainly them ducking then and the pilot kinda got lost. But i believe the author got better over time so I won’t rule her out because this book and I, disappointedly so, did not match. I did love Hail Mary tho. It’s a three star for me but mainly because of the action/setting around the plot. The couples plotline would get two, max. Just open your damn mouths and voice what’s going on and you could have been happily in love for years. 3
Fair Catch by Kandi Steiner is the first book I am reading for the author. As a lover of sports and college romance, I couldn't resist this little gem. I am glad I took the chance. In Fair Catch, book one in The Red Zone Rivals, Steiner delivered a beautiful and heartfelt romance. The story began by making the reader aware of a motor vehicle accident that robbed the Riley’s twin brother of fulfilling his dream of playing football. She blames his best friend Zeke for stealing her brother’s dream and has hated him since. Being the supportive twin, she vowed to her brother to take his place and work on making the team. A task which she accomplished to the delight of her brother and his best friend. Being a part of the team was a challenge because of the unwelcoming spirit swirling in the midst. Nevertheless, she is determined to prove she earned her spot on the team fair and square and that she deserves to be there. Then she learns she would be roommates with Zeke, her brother’s best friend, the friend she hated and blamed for her brother’s broken dreams.Zeke’s love of football is the one thing keeping him sane. He struggles academically because of a learning disability. As a result, he believes football was his only saving grace. He stills carry around the guilt for what happened to his best friend. To make the situation more complicated, he was in love with the woman who blamed him for the incident. The heroine, being the lone female on a college football team, influenced my decision to pick up Fair Catch. I enjoy stories where females can hold their own in a male dominated sport, and I wanted to see how well the author would handle it. Now I know nothing about football. (Where I am from soccer is our thing). However, after reading Fair Catch, I am itching to learn more about the sport. It was an absolute delight getting to know the hero, Zeke. He exuded confidence, but hidden beneath that confidence was a level of vulnerability, which makes you want to reach out and hug him. I felt for him, especially with how Riley treated him. Through all the animosity she throws his way, he remained her number one supporter. I admired Riley’s abilities as a ballplayer, her loyalty to her twin and her determination to succeed. However, in relation to Zeke, I wasn’t her number one fan. That girl had a chip on her shoulder that was higher than Mount Everest. The amount of hatred she carried around made her toxic. Funny enough, the person who was affected the most didn’t Harbor any ill- feelings, but she refused to let it go.I enjoyed how the romance developed. However, given Riley’s disposition, I expected the other shoe to drop, and it certainly fell. Using his past mistakes to hurt him was a below the belt move. It’s true when they say there is a thin line between love and hate. In Zeke and Riley’s case, it was very thin indeed and, thankfully, love prevailed.Overall, Fair Catch held me captive, and it delivered as expected. Fans of sports romance featuring enemies to lovers, close proximity and brother’s best friend trope will find Fair Catch entertaining. This review was originally posted on Totally Addicted to Reading
