"You must love someone without expecting anything in return; otherwise it's not true love. You must respect someone without expecting anything in return; otherwise you don't truly respect him. You must speak honestly without expecting a pat on the back or a high-five or a gold star next to your name; otherwise you aren't truly being honest." This reads more like a collection of blog posts rather than an actual book. There were parts in this book that were well researched, provided excellent points and made me really think and take a hard look at some aspects of my life. Then there are parts were ideas that need a nuanced view are oversimplified and mental health and other related concepts are preposterously generalized. Even though the subjects in the book had nothing to do with white male privilege, I felt mansplained to quite a few times. Probably because he oftens speaks about things in a very patronizing manner. It was overall lacking the playfulness of his first book and I couldn't really connect with the overarching story of the book.

if you already read his first book it is a great addition
