As a Ukranian, who also finished high school in Germany and learned history from both pov, this was a really great read. Even without my background, I really appreciate this book.I liked the quotes from different centuries to be criticised with and looked at the point of view from a modern perspective. How colonialism, genocides, fashism, racism was justified. And how the same thing repeats again and again.I hate russians for what they do with my country and nation for the past centuries. I think the book captured good important points of how this shit country rewrites history again and again. Even though it only touches the surface.German education teaches about horrors indeed. However, back in 2018 when I visited with my school class a concentration camp, every German looked like it was just a normal park. They unpacked their lunch bags in the first few minutes after coming to that place. And now seeing how a neonazi party afd is raising rapidly like it’s 1930s again, I don’t even wonder, thinking about that day where everyone acted as usual. And about my school teacher who taught us politics while voting for afd and being pro trump. I read the book after the US election and well, probably from February 2025 this book will be banned like many others. 51%+ of US choose the path of nazism, racism, sexism. And new cycle begins there.Europe has also problems with neo nazism, e.g. Hungary and Germany. I’m really afraid about our future. #must_read
