Though it is not necessarily something new or special, this was a thrilling fantasy novel with a mission I was intrigued by and characters that felt believable. The two protagonists, Gowenna and Skar, had an interesting dynamic. Both had flaws but both were also right in some things. I also liked the back and forth between how the mission came to be and the quest itself. I liked the writing style a lot and enjoyed how the city of Combat was described. The illustrations were nice, but they looked more like alternative cover designs than really complementing the story. All in all, no must read, but for fans of Hohlbein or high fantasy in general it is a fun and easy book.
