Description

After two years of German occupation of Amsterdam and harsh antisemitic repression, Edith and Otto Frank, a Jewish couple, decided to go into hiding with their two daughters, Anne and Margot, in a secret annex to Otto's offices. During those two years of seclusion, young Anne Frank wrote her diary. When Otto Frank, the only member of the family to survive the Holocaust, recovered his daughter's diary and decided to publish it, he created a new version of the original writings that allowed for its popularization and established it as one of the most widely read testimonies of World War II. However, this version omitted passages, such as those detailing the young girl's sexual awakening and anxieties, the changes in her body, and derogatory comments about her mother. This edition includes all those omissions. The aim is simply to reflect what Anne originally wrote, without any editorial corrections, selections, or omissions, thus giving it the value of a historical document, of purity, and of authenticity. This edition, therefore, constitutes the text the author originally wrote, full of simplicity and clarity. At the same time, this edition also offers the second Spanish translation of the author's text from its original Dutch version, providing a new revision and interpretation of the original texts. The spontaneity of the handwriting has been respected throughout, and the aim is to offer a fresh and updated perspective, from a feminine and sensitive point of view. Direct translation from the Dutch of the original version "A" by Irene de la Torre.
