Am liebsten hätte ich mich mit einer frisch gebrühten Kanne Tee hingesetzt während ich dieses kleine Buch las, aber bei über 30 Grad (sowohl außerhalb, als auch in meiner Wohnung) habe ich diesen Drang lieber unterdrückt. Ich habe mir aber vorgenommen mir das Buch an einem kalten Herbst- oder Winterabend nochmal vorzunehmen. Das Buch vom Tee erzählt kurz und mit abschweifenden Anekdoten geschmückt von der Tradition des Tee trinkens in Japan. Es werden dabei aber auch Vergleiche zu China und der westlichen Welt gezogen. Mir hat es gut gefallen, besonders der Teil über das Teehaus, das fand ich sehr faszinierend.
It was an interesting read. But there is a big BUT: for such a big academic this book is too subjective. He constantly says how „empty“ and „dull“ my interpretation of his words) the western culture is. I don’t how objective academics in 1906 were supposed to be but his superior attitude of eastern culture was really distracting. Reading it as a European was hard not to get offended even though I constantly tried to be objective, and tried think that these were other times. I think wouldn’t he constantly been offensive I could have appreciated the book more (and would have been able to concentrate more on the actual topic of the book).
