Description

For readers of Jenny Colgan and RaeAnne Thayne, 'tis the season for finding friendship, a place to call home, and a love to last a lifetime.

Christmas is tough for Lila Evans. She’s all alone, left with only memories of the heartbreaking time when she lost her father. But this year, Lila’s in search of a home away from home––and the countryside retreat of Fireside Cabins sounds like the perfect place. Yet Pinewood Hills, tucked in the snow-topped Tennessee mountains, doesn’t offer the small-town welcome she’d been expecting. And when Lila stops at the local coffee shop for a much-needed peppermint latte, the rugged, surly owner Theo Perry gives her a reception as icy as his piercing blue eyes.

Unfortunately, avoiding each other in the quaint village is impossible, which means Lila is soon bumping into Theo everywhere. To her surprise, Lila discovers there's more to Theo than his frosty demeanor . . . and when Lila sees him smile, it feels like sunshine on a cold winter’s day––like coming home. To chase away her holiday blues, Lila makes it her mission to warm up Theo, even if the town warns her that it would take a Christmas miracle.

My second Christmas novel by Jenny Hale this season and I think it is more festive than the other one. Lila and her friends rented a nice cabin in the woods of Tennessee for their annual Christmas vacation. At arrival Fireside Cabins seem a bit shabby but they make the better of it an fall for the owner Eleanor. In contrast Coffee Shop owner Theo seems not so charming at the beginning. I enjoyed how the girls enjoyed themselves. There was this cozy atmosphere and the Christmas spirit was everywhere at the beginning. In the middle the story was a bit too much for my opinion but all in all I had a good time with the book.

Lila and her three friends set off to the countryside, looking forward to some cosy retreat and spending some girls time. The Fireside Cabins sound like the perfect place for that. I really enjoyed the setting in the Tennessee mountains and although the cabins aren't the most modern standard, they sound very cosy. The small village nearby the cabins makes a very distant impression in the beginning but later this is getting a lot better with all the festive happenings and events. Lila and her friends are lovely characters and I was looking forward to follow their story. I liked how they turned the little bit shabby cabin into a cosy Christmas retreat. Theo, the coffeeshop owner, doesnt't make it easy to like him in the beginning but it's getting better throughout the book. In general I really liked the story but I found it a little bit jumpy at times, scenes and situations were changing very quickly and a few times I was a bit irritated. Overall the story is a very enjoyable festive read which I can recommend for the Christmas time.
