Nicht ganz überzeugend.
Im Grunde genommen mag ich die Thematik des Buchs. Auch Takeshi Kovacs zu begleiten macht Spaß. Aber auch in diesem Teil kam ich oft nicht ganz mit und vieles passierte sehr rasant, doch auch etwas unklar. Den Kern der Geschichte habe ich allerdings verstanden und ich lese den 3. Band mit Spannung. Vor allem da die Bücher außerhalb meiner üblichen Genres spielen, erfrischen sie mein Bücher-Ich sehr.
Solid book, probably better for hardcore Sci-Fi fans.
From my point of view, as a reader that seldomnly reads Sci-Fi, this book was hard to get into. Even though we follow the MC of the first one this is a whole new planet with new politics (that play a major role) and no murder-mystery plot as the first one. Because of this the first half of the book feels rather explanatory of the scene / setting etc. and it was hard to enjoy that bit. After the initial slump though there are some nice (though harder than usual to follow because of the sci-fi technologies) fight scene and some nice plot-reveals at the end. Definitely a nice read, though I'd rather recommend it to solid Sci-fi fans.
Takeshi Kovacs ist zurück. Doch diesmal ist er nicht als Detektiv aktiv, sondern als Soldat, als Söldner auf dem Planeten Sanktion IV. An diesem entfernten Ort, an dem sich kaum noch jemand an die Erde erinnert, tobt ein grausamer Bürgerkrieg, in dem die großen, übermächtigen Konzerne eine wichtige und blutige Rolle spielen. Die Menschheit hatte eine enormen Technologiesprung erlebt, nachdem sie auf mehreren Planeten die Überreste marsianischen Lebens entdeckt und nutzbar gemacht hatten. Nun entdeckt eine Archäologin auf Sanktion IV erstmals einen Zugang zu einem intakten Sternenschiff der Marsianer. Kovacs heuert eine Mannschaft an, um diesen Schatz zu sichern. Dieses Buch ist ein außerordentliche schwacher Nachfolger des "Unsterblichkeitsprogramms". Dort hatte Morgan mit Takeshi Kovacs ein schillernde, ultracoole Figur im Stil eines Mike Hammers geschaffen. Die Handlung war spannend, überraschend und hatte eine philosophische Ebene. Dieses Buch ist platt, die Hauptfigur erscheint aufgeblasen und ziemlich unbedarft, die Handlung ist langatmig. Lediglich das Ende des Buches, das eine Überraschung bereithält belohnte mich für meine Ausdauer beim lesen. Nicht lesenswert!
This one quite different than the predecessor, but nevertheless pretty worthwhile to read. Again, the human body as usable resource is a quite interesting concept especially in combination with radiation and the resulting decay. The whole soul market idea was something for me I had to put the book aside and think about it. The plot is mostly centered about am Martian artifact and a battle between several I'd say political factions and some confusing change of sides of protagonists.
