Description
The most nostalgic and reflective of Evelyn Waugh's novels, Brideshead Revisited looks back to the golden age before the Second World War. It tells the story of Charles Ryder's infatuation with the Marchmains and the rapidly disappearing world of privilege they inhabit. Enchanted first by Sebastian Flyte at Oxford, then by his doomed Catholic family, in particular his remote sister, Julia, Charles comes finally to recognise his spiritual and social distance from them.
'Lush and evocative ... Expresses at once the profundity of change and the indomitable endurance of the human spirit'

My mother gave me that one for Christmas. I own so many books that it is very difficult for her to find something I don't own or haven't read so far. She thought that I probably hadn't heard about this one before and she was right. She also made a really good choice because it became one of my favourite books. As I hadn't heard of Brideshead Revisited before I didn't have any expectations. I guess this is sometimes the best way to read a book. I wasn't influenced by anyone and completely without prejudice. I wish that more novels were like Brideshead Revisited. I understood all of the author's points. He uses a clear language and good images. I'm looking forward to reading more of his works.
