Reread. In den 90ern habe ich die LA Romane Ellroys verschlungen. Auch heute funktioniert es für mich. Werde definitiv die nachfolgenden Romane nochmals lesen. Die schwarze Dahlie ist ein Hardboiled-Krimi und ein historischer Noir-Thriller. Das Buch gehört zum Genre des Kriminalromans, genauer gesagt zum Neo-Noir bzw. Hardboiled-Detektivroman, der für seine düstere Atmosphäre, komplexe Charaktere und harte Sprache bekannt ist. Es basiert lose auf dem realen, bis heute ungeklärten Mordfall an Elizabeth Short im Jahr 1947. Ellroy verbindet hier fiktive Ermittler mit realen historischen Ereignissen und zeichnet ein düsteres Bild von Korruption, Gewalt und moralischem Verfall im Los Angeles der 1940er-Jahre. Die schwarze Dahlie ist ein Krimi, der das klassische Noir-Genre auf ein neues Level hebt. Ellroys Stil ist Geschmackssache – wer mit seiner harten, kompromisslosen Sprache und der düsteren Atmosphäre zurechtkommt, wird mit einem fesselnden, tiefgründigen Roman belohnt. Besonders für Fans von Noir-Krimis, anspruchsvollen Thrillern und historischen Kriminalromanen geeignet. Wer jedoch eine klassische, klar strukturierte Krimihandlung sucht, könnte Schwierigkeiten mit der Dichte und Komplexität des Buches haben.
Yeah so this wasn't it. We barely spend time on the actual case. It's more about the investigators and their private life (which is quite confusing tbh). It's quite confusing in general. The characters look very similar and they have so many similar nicknames. You kinda get lost regarding who's who. Furthermore the conclusion just went too far in my opinion. You get one. And then you get another. And another. And at some point it just gets kinda ridiculous. And all of these charcters need serious therapy. Let's be honest. There are also many problematic elements to this story. Maybe you can chalk them up to "that's just how things were back then", but the amount of police brutality that gets just shrugged of is INSANE. Casual racism and homophobia are no fun either. And the way women are talked about and how the black dahlia at some point almost gets framed as deserving of what happened to her just disgusted me. The amount of bare tits in here also really wasn't necessary. Thanks. Well at least it was over quickly...
