Description
When Lana and her father return to their seaside hometown to help clear the debris of a big storm, Lana remembers how much she’s missed the ocean—and the strong, reassuring presence of her aunt. As Lana explores the familiar beach, she discovers something incredible: a colony of Aquicorns, small, magical seahorse-like creatures that live in the coral reef. Lana rescues an injured Aquicorn and cares for it with the help of her aunt, who may know more about these strange creatures than she’s willing to admit. When a second storm threatens to reach the town, choices made many years ago about how to coexist with the sea start to rise to the surface. Lana realizes she will need to find the strength to stand on her own, even when it means standing up to the people who she has always relied on to protect her.

I received a free e-arc over NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. After reading The Tea Dragon Society, which I absolutely loved to bits I knew I had to read more of O'Neills graphic novels and when I saw this one on NetGalley I got extremely excited. The art style is just as beautiful and adorable and I'm absolutely obsessed with it. While I did enjoy Tea Dragon Society more, probably cause I love dragons and tea and it was perfect for me, this one was so amazing and featured such important lessons about our environment and how to treat it. I think this is an amazing graphic novel for kids to explain to them, how climate change and the fishing industry influence the oceans and what that means for us. It's just an overall feel good story with quite some deep themes, but it never gets dark. It deal with the loss of a parent as well and I think it does that very well. Really enjoyable, I would recommend this to anyone who likes a cute art style and a little bit of magic in their stories. I also think you can enjoy this story no matter how old you are. There is something for everybody in there.
