Discover this brilliantly comic and moving bestselling novel by the award-winning author of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time and The Porpoise.
At fifty-seven, George is settling down to a comfortable retirement, building a shed in his garden, reading historical novels, listening to a bit of light jazz. Then Katie, his tempestuous daughter, announces that she is getting remarried, to Ray.
The family is not pleased, as her brother Jamie observes, Ray has 'strangler's hands'. Katie can't decide if she loves Ray, or loves the way he cares for her son Jacob, and her mother Jean is a bit put out by the way the wedding planning gets in the way of her affair with one of her husband's former colleagues. And the tidy and pleasant life Jamie has created crumbles when he fails to invite his lover, Tony, to the dreaded nuptials.
Unnoticed in the uproar, George discovers a sinister lesion on his hip, and quietly begins to lose his mind.

I read this book in one day, it was kind of sweet and sad and good but not so much that i felt very emotional or invested in the characters. Overall, i did enjoy reading the book (or i wouldn't have gotten through it that fast), but i do not think it moved me in a way other books did that i read recently.
After what seems ages I've finally managed to finish a book again. And I was quite sure that I'll finish this because 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time' is one of my favorites. So I started this book with quite high expectations, and even though I liked again Haddon's easy-going writing style and that he manages to make everyday life something special as well as to combine sad and funny moments to a perfect mix, I have to say that I'm a little bit disappointed by the story itself. Still, it was a very good read for the evenings and a lazy Sunday, something I could just go on with that didn't need a lot of cognitive capacity ;)
