About the book

Gideon always has a plan. His plans include running for class president, becoming head of the yearbook committee and having his choice of colleges. They do not include falling head over heels for his best friend and next-door neighbour, Kyle. It's a distraction. It's pointless, as Kyle is already dating the gorgeous and popular head cheerleader, Ruby. And Gideon doesn't know what to do . . .Kyle finally feels like he has a handle on life. He has a wonderful girlfriend, a best friend willing to debate the finer points of Lord of the Rings, and social acceptance as captain of the basketball team. Then, both Ruby and Gideon start acting really weird, just as his spot on the team is threatened, and Kyle can't quite figure out what he did wrong . . .

That was such a light and quick read! However, the characters infuriated me. Let's start with Ruby, Kyle's girlfriend. She was horrible and one of the worst characters I've ever come across. She describes herself as 'the coolest bitch on earth', handles her boyfriend's coming out in a horrible way (she's annoyed that he waited half a year to tell her), and she manipulates her friends. Then there's this insta-love between Kyle and Gideon, which was highly unbelievable. Adding to that, Kyle also acts like an asshole when Gideon came out to him. Just like Ruby, he was annoyed that Gideon didn't tell him immediately. The POV of Gideon's brother was also really unncessary, since his story was left quite open at the end as well. There was no resolution. I didn't hate this book but I didn't love it either. Nothing special, but a cute book for hot summer days.

I feel like this book was unnecessary. I think I would've enjoyed it more without the multiple POVs going on. This was by no means bad or anything, just a tad boring and extremely predictable.
