About the book

Gideonalwayshas a plan. It includes running for class president, becoming head of the yearbook committee, and having his choice of colleges. It does NOT include falling head over heels for his best friend, Kyle. It’s a distraction, it’s pointless—Kyle is already dating the head cheerleader, Ruby—and Gideon doesn’t know what to do.

Kylefinallyfeels like he has a handle on life. He has a wonderful girlfriend, a best friend willing to debate the finer points ofLord of the Rings, and social acceptance as captain of the basketball team. So when both Ruby and Gideon start actingreallyweird, just as his spot on the team is threatened, Kyle can’t quite figure out what he did wrong.

Sandy Hall, the author ofA Little Something Different,is back with her signature wit in this quirky and heartfelt LGBT YA novel.

That was such a light and quick read! However, the characters infuriated me. Let's start with Ruby, Kyle's girlfriend. She was horrible and one of the worst characters I've ever come across. She describes herself as 'the coolest bitch on earth', handles her boyfriend's coming out in a horrible way (she's annoyed that he waited half a year to tell her), and she manipulates her friends. Then there's this insta-love between Kyle and Gideon, which was highly unbelievable. Adding to that, Kyle also acts like an asshole when Gideon came out to him. Just like Ruby, he was annoyed that Gideon didn't tell him immediately. The POV of Gideon's brother was also really unncessary, since his story was left quite open at the end as well. There was no resolution. I didn't hate this book but I didn't love it either. Nothing special, but a cute book for hot summer days.

I feel like this book was unnecessary. I think I would've enjoyed it more without the multiple POVs going on. This was by no means bad or anything, just a tad boring and extremely predictable.
