I'm not sure whether to give this book 3 or 4 stars. (Goodreads, where's the half star rating?) Since I love the musical, I'm giving this book 4 stars. One thing which annoyed me a bit is the fact that it takes quite long until they're together. I liked it that Laurens and Marquis de Lafayette were part of the story, too. Some references to the lyrics such as "Will you be as satisfied then as you are at this moment being a poor man's wife?" were really nice to discover. I was also curious to find out when exactly the book takes place. Considering the fact that his is a YA book, I was glad that the Reynolds affair wasn't part of it. The way it was written made it more authentic and it wasn't too annoying to read.
