4.0Stephen King schreibt unter Pseudonym einen Dystopieklassiker, der Ende der 1980er mit einem gewissen Arnold Schwarzenegger unter gleichen Titel verfilmt wurde. 100 relativ kurze Kapitel die einen Countdown bilden, etwas über 200 Seiten, schnelle Action. 2025 (was 1982 noch relativ weit weg war, 2022 allerdings nicht mehr) ist bestimmt von großen Gegensätzen zwischen Arm und Reich. Verschmutzung, Krankheiten, Arbeitslosigkeit und totale Kontrolle bestimmen das Leben. Zusätzlich wird über einen Zwangs-TV ("FreeVee") eine Dauerunterhaltungsbeschallung geliefert. Hier werden "Game"-Shows für Bargeld geboten, nur das es den Spielern immer um Leben und Tod geht. Die bestbezahlte Show ist "The Running Man" und Benjamin Richards will Teil davon werden um Geld für Medizin für seine Tochter zu erspielen. Für jede Stunde die er überlebt bekommt er garantiert 100 New Dollar. Aber es muss sich per Videoaufnahme zweimal am Tag melden und die Bevölkerung wird angehalten, den Jägern aktiv zu helfen. Ein wirklich spannende, actionreiche und blutige Jagd-Dystopie. Der Film gilt ebenfalls als Klassiker, aber wir haben hier einen klaren Fall von Buch über Film, wie so oft.

At first I was curious about the whole concept, but after the 80% mark I got so bored. I didn’t care about anyone of the characters (especially Richard).
