About the book

In the sequel to The God and the Gumiho, a trickster god must work with his reincarnated lost love to solve the mystery of his brother's murder on board a luxury underworld cruise ship in this charming and clever contemporary fantasy romance.

Can reincarnated love ever be the same?

Seokga the No-Longer-Fallen is looking for his love. Since he lost Hani nothing has felt right - and he's been desperately searching for her reincarnated form ever since.

When the red thread of fate finally leads Seokga to a cruise down the river of the dead, the woman he finds isn't Hani . . . her name is Yoo Kisa, and she has no memory of Seokga - and no interest in regaining it either.

But then the Heavenly Emperor is murdered aboard the ship, and it falls to Seokga and Kisa to solve the crime before the cruise ends. As the mystery draws them closer, they will have to decide what they truly mean to each other.

The fate of their world might just depend on it. . .

Satisfying conclusion to the love story but...

... I liked the premise of the red thread and it being implored a lot. I disliked the overall pacing and ending of the book. At times it went on forever and focused on rather uneccessary small details whereas I felt as if important scenes were rushed. The ending itself is also just a weird open-ending that could imply a third book which is confusing since as far as I know these are meant as a duet. Overall not as good as the first one but not bad either.

3.75 The God & the Gumiho was one of my surprise reads of last year. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters, plot and writing so I was very excited to head into its sequel. I very quickly realised that if The God & the Gumiho was more Hani’s book, The God & the Gwisin is Seokga’s. We get a really nice insights on his thoughts and feelings, especially after those years without Hani as well as his struggle and complicated feelings for Kisa. We also get a lot of banter and bickering, but I feel like that's a given! While the first 20% were a bit slow, the pace did pick up nicely after. There were really great moments throughout and while I did enjoy the writing and humour a lot, I can’t say I was as invested as I was with the first book. The plot itself was great and had similar vibes to book one. We also get to meet a couple of old & new characters and Yeomra *might* be one of my new faves. I saw the author compared it to the kdrama Hotel del Luna and I fully agree (If you haven’t watched that drama, I *very* highly recommend to do so). I kept thinking of the reasons why this book didn’t quite hit the mark for me and I think it comes down to me not being as invested as I hoped I would be, liking the plot of The God & the Gumiho more and then ultimately also liking Hani more. The God & the Gwisin is a fun sequel and I can see people liking it just as much as book one. I saw that the author already announced their next book, which sounds great. Can’t wait to read it! Thank you to Del Rey for providing this book for review via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

ᨳ᭬ ⭑ ⭑ ⭑ ⭑ ࿐ྂ “Whenever she kisses him, simply because she can and she wants to, he wonders how his wicked soul ever came to deserve this.” Oh my god i can't describe how much i love the characters and how happy i am to be revisiting the Universe even though it hasn't been long since i read the first Book. The Story was so good and don't even get me started on the writing style but i still like the first Book more. I have the biggest soft spot for Seokga, I just love him so much and Hwanin, get behind me, i will protect you from the everything. I’m still not sure what i think of Somi, she was kinda irrelevant here (i’m sorry for saying this). “This is home, Seokga.” Her fingers brush over his lips. “With you.”
