When I saw the cover, title and author I hit preorder in record speed (only to actually read the book like 5 months after release... whoopsie) and it still exceeded my expectations!

I would have loved to read a whole book about a bookstore next to a coffeeshop in the world of Legends and Lattes. But what this book does is even better! Fern - beloved from Bookshops and Bonedust - is having a crisis of self, and is going on an unexpected journey. This is not the cozy fantasy you are used to reading from Travis Baldree, but it's travel companions and campfires, losing and finding yourself, ah, and sentient cutlery. Wer hier Zimtschnecken und Kuscheldecken sucht, wird nicht fündig werden. Wer aber gerne etwas über eine echte Freundschaft, den Kampf mit der Entscheidung was man eigentlich mit seinem Leben anfangen möchte und kleptomanischen Chaos-Goblins lesen möchte wird sehr glücklich werden. Wir folgen hier Fern, Buchhändlerin und nicht mehr ganz die jüngste, die sich um dem Alltag zu entfliehen, mehr oder weniger freiwillig, hals-über-kopf ins Abenteuer stürzt. Begleitet wird sie von Kopfgeldjägerin und gelegentlich Heldin Astryx, und Zyll, besagtem Golblin. Es folgt eine abernteuerliche Reise quer durchs ganze Land, mit allerhand Schwierigkeiten aber auch unerwarteten Freunden. Ich konnte gut mit Fern mitfühlen. Ich bin zwar noch nicht so alt wie sie, aber wer kennt nicht das gefühl von einer gewissen verlorenheit, von "was wäre wenn..." Den Cozy charakter bekommt das Buch durch die wundervollen Freundschaften und die ebenso wundervollen Nebenfiguren. Einziges kleines aber: die Böse in der Geschichte, namentlich Tullah finde ich etwas flach, aber darüber kann man hinweg sehen. Alles in allem flüssig zu lesen und sehr unterhaltsam.
