Why do I feel so overwhelmed? Is everyone else achieving more than me? Why did I say that embarrassing thing? What can I do to actually make a difference?

Am I the only one who feels this way?

In Why Am I Like This?, award-winning podcaster Gemma Styles captures the voice of her generation, giving words to those feelings so many of us struggle to explain.

Drawing on her own experience with mental health issues and neurodivergence, Gemma paints a picture of mental health in the digital age, including her own journey and ADHD diagnosis, to highlight the ways in which mental health is often overlooked or trivialized.

Featuring the insight of experts and the latest research, Gemma shows that by being curious and compassionate, we can start to feel more hopeful, connected and at peace with ourselves.

Thought-provoking and heartening, this book is for anyone who feels overwhelmed, less than, or that they don't belong.

Uff das hat mich echt angestrengt. Ich habe mir was ganz anderes darunter vorgestellt.

Was Sinn macht bei mentaler Gesundheit!

Why Am I Like This? by Gemma Styles is an inspiring, easy-to-read book that helps you understand yourself, others, and the world around you, offering hope and valuable insights for personal growth and connection.

Why Am I Like This? by Gemma Styles is an amazing book that talks about mental health, how the brain works, and how society affects us. As someone studying social work, I found the book very helpful. It not only helped me understand myself better but also gave me new ways to understand the people I work with. The way Gemma explains how the brain and society work together is really interesting and easy to follow. What I loved most about the book was Gemma’s writing style. It felt like someone was sitting next to me, telling me a story. The way she writes is very warm and personal, which makes even complex ideas easy to understand. It’s not like reading a boring textbook—it feels like a real conversation, and that makes it very enjoyable. This book also gave me a lot of hope. It reminded me that even when life is hard, things can get better. It’s comforting to read about struggles we all face and know that we are not alone. I’ve learned so much from it about myself and about other people, and I know I will read it again in the future. I think this book is perfect for anyone who wants to understand themselves better or help others. It’s simple, inspiring, and full of helpful lessons. I will definitely recommend it to my friends and coworkers. Thank you, Gemma Styles, for writing such a beautiful and helpful book!
